When buying boxing equipment, I tend to favour the traditional boxing brands like Everlast, Lonsdale and Title. However generic sports names such as Adidas can sometimes do the job just as well.
This adidas boxing ‘ADISTAR’ Pro Head Guard is CE approved and so at least has the piece of paper saying it works.
This boxing head guard is mainly made with cowhide leather, with artificial anti slip Japanese AMARA as the inside lining. This would probably be an okay purchase for beginner boxers, its got protection on the top of the head, and although getting hit in that area is usually unlikely, when you are starting out in the boxing ring you aren’t so used to protecting that area and keeping your stance etc. so some protection there might be a good idea.
Adidas have only begun making boxing equipment relatively recently, so personally I would wait to get the general feeling of their range before buying adidas boxing gear left right and centre. The classic boxing brands are probably better quality, and have more street creditials, but that doesn’t mean this ADISTAR wont do the job just fine.
A downside for me is that this head guard doesn’t have cheek guards, which I prefer to have when boxing. However that’s just personal preference and this will differ for every boxer.
If you like ADISTAR, The Boxing Head Guard From Adidas, the you can pick one up from Sugar Ray’s for £40.
What do you think of this headguard?
Can adidas break into the boxing market?
