Knock down after knock down. In the first round of this fight the former British super featherweight champion was knocked to the canvas. As he was celebrating his birthday, Gomez did not give in and got up again to come back to smash his opponent to the ground with a left hook in the second round.
Gomez began to tire out in the fifth round as blood was pouring from his face, and he had been knocked to one knee. When the fight was stopped by the referee, John Keane, he expressed disappointment, although he looked quite relieved that he could now stop taking the hammering that Amir Khan was giving him. The fight was stopped As Gomez was not responding to a battering up against the ropes.
Amir Khan is still unbeaten in 18 fights and will most probably be a world champion, but not in the very near future. Gomez had also shown what skill he has, and that he can get back up after a serious knock down.

Amir Khan thinks that he could fight the winner of next weeks Davis Diaz β Manny Pacquiao fight. Amir Khan also believes that he can be world champion by the end of this year, “And, by the end of the year, I’m not just going to be one of the main men, I’m going to the number one, and everyone’s going to be after meβ. Amir Khan also sees himself as one of the top boxers now, and that he could beat either David Diaz, or Manny Pacquiao “Diaz and Pacquiao are both great fighters, but I’m confident that I could beat both of them”. This would be a great fight to see, and also with the Pacquiao β Diaz fight this coming weekend.
However I strongly doubt whether Amir Khan could beat P4P King Pacman. Perhaps in a year or two, but if they fought next week, Manny would knock Khan out without a problem in my opinion!
Could Amir Khan be world champion?
How long will this take?
Who should Amir Khan fight next?

geeez this kid hasnt fought any named fighters yet..he needs some seasoning first..

Khan is getting too confident beating patsy after patsies
Before trying to challenge the best fighters, Khan needs to fight at least any of the top 5 contenders. Pacquiao, Diaz, promoters,or fans are neither that interested, they’d rather spent their hard earned money to whom they believed will bring real contention not an obvious imbalance.
My suggestion to Khan’s promoter and manager, it’s not that bad at all to think that bigger pie, but in order to be fair to other boxer who are in line and for the good of boxing, please fall in line and climb the ladder one step at a time.

Yeah right..! Way to go Mr. Author, Amir Khan may think that he can beat Pacman - but he is nowhere near the list of Pacquiao’s caliber and he should line up farther to where all the calibrated fighters that wanted to fight Pacman and salivate at the thought of having a nice paycheck as well as the recognition of the entire world… many did attempt to say that to the Pacman and they all hit the Canvas when they faced him… as for now, it is Pacquiao’s prime and still have a good many fights ahead of him… an UNKNOWN Amir Khan is not what Pacquiao’s resume needs… Hatton maybe, dela Hoya probably… Nate Campbell and other known fighters…but Khan??? Who is he????? F**k him!!!
Comment by rey mendoza — June 22, 2008 @ 6:20 am
you think amir khan can knock out the great pacquiao! that’s a foolishness and insanity! better train more before facing a ferrocious lion or else PAC will eat you alive that way he did to mexico greats.
Comment by mucho dinero — June 22, 2008 @ 6:21 am
Khan’s too ambitious, he should try other boxers first before plunging into Pacman’s
arena…taste first the hardship of fighting a nobody so that when the times comes he can fight the pacman.
Comment by ben kisla — June 22, 2008 @ 6:23 am
Amir should learn more… as he is still young…maybe he will be the next HAMED( during his downfall)
Comment by Sampson Lewko — June 22, 2008 @ 7:31 am
Fight with your gloves AMIR KHAN not with your big mouth… dont worry maybe ten years from now you will become the number one conter for lightweight champion
Comment by Sampson Lewko — June 22, 2008 @ 7:32 am
i dont think he can beat those to warriors david and manny pacquiao. i know he was beat gomez but who is gomez anyway, hes very underdog to fight khan and even if hes underdog(gomez) to khan, he was prove himself that he can knockdown khan in 2nd round. and khan was saying that he ready to fight MANNY PACQUIAO, OHHH COME ON! I know he’s on hype this moment but he was never proved himself fighting a world champ like diaz x2, campbell, casamayor or even katsidis hmmmp!!! to u MR AMIR KHAN, U need more paractice…..!!!
Comment by leandro — June 22, 2008 @ 7:45 am
so,amir khan has been knocked down by an unkown figther.that
tells it all!amir is still young therefore he should use his youth in collecting experience and then if he stands the test of times then go for the big figths.don’t rush yourself dude or else your career would be a failure-like many aspiring champions.lol

pacman will knock him out easily.just watch his fight and you will know..its true he must first try boxers with his level not pacman easily..if he dont want to have a loss he should avoid the pacman…
Comment by vash stampede — June 22, 2008 @ 8:07 am
amir khan, stop dreaming.. you are very far from pacquiao level.. pacman is more than A level.. and you are not B, C or even D level..
F*ck You.
Comment by prokid — June 22, 2008 @ 8:59 am
Amir is just developing his talent and still needs to learn a lot before He can earn some respect from the fans. He is not even recognize outside UK because most of his opponents are either way too small or have past their prime already. He was knockdown before by an unknown fighter and last night He was hit with a left hook that nearly send him kissing the canvas… No way he can survive the strength of PACMAN… A few powerful left hook from pacman or maybe just one left hook will knock him at the canvas painfully… Take it slowly dude and don’t jump too high co’z if you fall, it will hurt you badly….
Comment by airman — June 22, 2008 @ 8:59 am
I’ve seen most of Khan’s bouts and i must admit he looks really sharp with his punches, but am not convinced he can beat Pacman (Diaz probably). Khan looked sharp because his opponents were sluggish and very slow fighters–way out of their primes! Khan thinks he can dominate at lightweight division, keep dreamin’ but it ain’t gonna happen ‘cos he ain’t got the chin to take the punches and am very sure most of you would agree to that especially in his most recent bout. He was knocked down on the 2nd round and it wasn’t even a big punch. So i can imagine how Pacman and khan bouts will turn out. So let khan face Pacman ‘cos am sick and tired of the khan’s hype–over rated and he haven’t even been in a real bout yet. This post is not to insult khan but khan i think deserve a shot at Pacman for khan needs a rude awakening. Peace!!!
Comment by Escape9 — June 22, 2008 @ 9:54 am
I watched with disdain last night’s fight of Khan vs Gomes. This patsy has the gut & temerity to call Pacman’s name in the posfight interview! By looking at the way he covered his right rib cage, obviously he’s hurt to the core. So amateurish really, this patsy has never perfected his defense.
Frank Warren has to feed a lot more patsies just to pad his immaculate record of wins (from patsies as well).
Too much hype… blah-blah-blah.

khan should fight first campbell and win titles before facing Pacman.. He wants to fight Pacman for good paychecks but the problem is he can’t sell tickets.. Who do you think you are Mr. Khan? Youre not even close to hatton..
Comment by Falahutog — June 22, 2008 @ 1:12 pm
Amir khan is an aspiring young blood in boxing, it is good that you have your goal, but don’t rush things up,coz even those grate fighters has their own failure, have more patience bro and i know your time will come.
good luck in your career!!
Comment by abdul azis — June 22, 2008 @ 1:21 pm
Stop the shit amir khan!!! earn your strips first before you compare yourself to Paquiao and the rest of the great fighters who have proven themself already over the years.
Comment by johnnel — June 22, 2008 @ 3:14 pm
What a joke!!!! I laugh so hard that I tried eating a dozen packs of doritos to comprehend Mr. Khan!!
You should fight your own ego first!!
Comment by Doritos Gonzales — June 22, 2008 @ 4:09 pm
Amir Khan got knocked down in this fight. Geezz, If it was Pacquaio who knocked you down, I dont think you will be able to fight again! Fight Katsidis or Valero first before ever thinking about a fight with Pacquaio.
Amir Khan is a good boxer, no doubt about it. But he is still raw and he has a glass chin. If he fights an elite fighter at this stage of his career, he will just be exposed and beaten to early retirement. My, suggestion to you Amir Khan, is gather more experience and shut your mouth coz right now, you are not in the list. Hatton is in.

Khan is too ambitious!!! i think he has to fight Jacky Chan first so he could establish himself as top contender in the forbidden kingdom of Pacman.. I think he has the chance in beating Chan coz chan is always under the intoxication of liquor!!! he can be the monkey king!!!
Comment by bobo — June 23, 2008 @ 2:32 am
Hey!Amir dont count the chicks if the egg is still not hatched. Dont be too ambitious, your still young. You may end up like Hamed. Saying in public that you can beat the best guys in the lighweight division is full of shit. Prove yourself first. Go on the ladder and earn it for yourself. You are still a nobody. Make a name for your self. But if youi really want to massacre your career, you can start by taking on Guzman or juan diaz or marquez, will see what the result will be. For the meantime, just be humble and keep quite, let your fist talk and not your loud mouth.
Comment by Jake — June 23, 2008 @ 7:20 am
Amir Khan is a strong and talented fighter but fighting Pacman or Diaz within this year may cause him a dilemnia, He is strong but he cannot stand toe-to-toe with this two guys (Pacman or Diaz) for a 12 round, who will be featured this coming June 28.
He must first start beating those well best fighter with the likes of JMM, MAB, JD, MK, JASC, before taking a bang with this superstars.

mr.khan needs to prove himself he’s worthy to fight the top pound-for-pound boxers by knocking down some of the mexican boxers. but i like his attitude, very optimistic dude, if i was pacman, i’d give him a chance and we’ll see..
Comment by badwire — June 23, 2008 @ 10:19 pm
pacman is just hype.amir is the real gay,.
Comment by amir — June 23, 2008 @ 11:40 pm
amir is just a neophyte in terms of facing the world’s best pound for pound king no other than of corz the one and only filipino idol Manny the Pacman, don’t even think about it, will never happen too young and brittle to face the Champ, No Chance, try somebody else let amir train hard and continue hunting lousy opponent just to put more winnings on your stats. once amir is ready then maybe Pacman will fight him after ten years ok, so just stick around Amir be a fan who knows Manny will give you a complimentary ringside ticket on his next fight ok. Ulugtasan sa imo.
Comment by ericM. — June 29, 2008 @ 4:47 pm
We should make the fight happen so that we could see Pacquiao smash Khan. He getting too big for his boots so he needs someone to knock him out of them.
Comment by saddist — July 1, 2008 @ 12:47 am
PACMAN WOULD EAT EAT EAT EAT ALL DAY! I hope he dosnt fight PAC yet. He would really hurt his career. AMIR needs some bigger names but not pacman’s, not now atelast. It would be GAME OVER for him. PACMAN is just to damn good and a season vet!
Comment by WES — July 1, 2008 @ 9:29 pm
I hope Amir Khan have seen how Pacman TKO diaz, I don’t even think he can beat D. Diaz yet…
If he fight pacquiao, I don’t think he can survive the 1st round!
Comment by ratd — July 2, 2008 @ 1:39 pm
Amir Khan is young and ambitious but Manny the pacman will eat him up…Manny has been so tremendously better and comfortable in the lightweight division…I expect a good fight between the two…Manny will win for sure…
Comment by doctorkim — July 3, 2008 @ 10:22 am
If gomez can knock khan over with a small shot manny will knock him out! get a grip khan who have you fought????
Comment by matty — July 13, 2008 @ 8:33 pm
Amir Kahn is a good young fighter with a bright future ahead of him, but for the little efftect he has made on the boxing world he is aiming at to high standards fighting pacman. Amir believes he has a chance against pacman because he has fought a couple of lads who are young early proffesional careers but when he comes up against a big name like pacquiao he will be on the canvas in no time.
