Steffy Bull is coming out of retirement to be the next in line to fight Amir Khan in Khan’s 12th professional bout next month.
The funny thing is Bull actually has seats for this boxing card which includes Joe Calzaghe’s fight with Peter Manfredo in Cardiff on 7 April, as well as Khan, 20, the main support attraction. However instead of watching Khan, Bull will be fighting him.
Steffy Bull said:
“My partner and I are due to be married in July and she gave me a present of tickets for the show,”
“We were going to have a nice weekend in Wales and support the British boxers.
“It’s amazing how things work out because now I am going to be getting into the ring and there is going to be a spare ticket next to my missus. It feels like I have been handed a lottery ticket.”
Steffy Bull isn’t exactly a top ranking boxer, working part time as a part-time teaching assistant for children with special needs, but he has a record of 24 wins from his 29 professional fights.
He called an end to his boxing career after his last bout in October after a fight with unbeaten local prospect John Fewkes didn’t happen.
“When negotiations fell through to fight Fewkes I felt the chances were not going to come,” said Bull.
“I have had a long career in boxing and I have never really got the big breaks.
“I felt maybe at 30-years-old, when I’m about to get married and I’ve got a family, it might be the end.
“I couldn’t believe it when this opportunity came up and it is one I intend to grab with both hands.
“I stayed up to watch Amir in the Olympics and I would be kidding myself if I said I have not been highly impressed, but I firmly believe that on my best day I am more than capable of mixing it with him.”
Well surely this should be another case of Frank Warren putting them up and Amir Khan knocking them down? If we are lucky we might get to see more action that last time, when Khan won by KO in 55 seconds! Maybe he will spin the fight out for a few more rounds, just so we some of the legendary, dazzling hand speed of the young boxer from Bolton?
Anyway it should be a good fight, and it will be good to see Amir Khan fight again and knock up another win (and probably a KO) to his record on his next step to a world title…
What do you think of the upcoming Amir Khan fight?
