Although he is all set and ready to fight the hardy Ali Nuumbembe from Nambia, Scotland’s Kevin Anderson has already set his sights a lot higher.
The twenty three year old boxer will face Namibian Ali Nuumbembe in Kirkcaldy at the Fife Ice Arena this Friday.
A win in his home town and a successful defence of his British title against Eamonn Magee in the spring should allow him a crack at the European title.
“I hope to be in the mix for a world title within the next year or two” Anderson said.
But although his sights are set on the grand prize, Anderson is insisting that he is taking it fight by fight as he works his way up the ladder to the world title.
His opponent, 28 year old Nuumbembe, has only lost one of his 19 professional fights to date. This was when he got knocked out by Nigerian Ajose Olusegun at the York Hall in June.
Kevin Anderson admitted that Nuumbembe is the “next best in the Commonwealth after me so it will be a hard fight”.
The last time Anderson fought was in November against Anthony Guillet of France. He won this non-title fight by a comfortable points victory but he is pleased to be back on home soil.
“It’s good to be back home after my last two fights in England,” said Anderson. “The home crowd can give you that extra 10 or 15% if you need it.”
What do you think of Anderson’s chances against Nuumbembe?
And what about his chances of winning a world title?
