European super featherweight champion, Alex Arthur effectively defended his belt title for a third time after ending Spain’s Sergio Palomo fight during the fifth round.
Palomo received standing counts within the first two rounds as Arthur hit him with a straight right and then a sharp swinging left hook. The Scottish boxer looked far too powerful for Palomo and he put him down again in round five; when the ref finally ended the bout. But in contradiction to this Author told the media: “Palomo had a really big heart and he was really quick,” and carried on by saying: “But I wanted to get the job done quickly. I’m coming up through Frank Warren’s stable behind Joe Calzaghe and I want to get up to that level now.”
Warren said he wants to organize a world title clash for the Edinburgh boxer hopefully some time next summer. This was the first time Authur had stepped into the ring since last April, when he made the second defence of his belt against Sergey Gulyakevich. He is now likely to be included in a world title bout some time next year.
