Alex Arthur; the super featherweight champion of Europe, defends his title against Sergio Palomo on Saturday in Glasgow. Arthur has not been in the ring since April, when he made his second defence of his title against Sergey Gulyakevich.
Arthur, has been training with a cut above his eye, said: “He is a very good fighter and he is undefeated in 24 fights,” “But he has never boxed out of Spain which could maybe go against him a bit. He can change and vary things, he can be quite aggressive and a technical boxer. But I have had a perfect blend of fighters in sparring. I have been sparring with Willie Limond, who is very similar to him (Palomo) in that he is very quick and he is a clever, thinking fighter,” added Arthur.
“I have also been sparring with Ricky Burns, who is very fast and hard to catch, and also Lee McAllister, a young lad from Aberdeen.” He continued by saying: “Glasgow is the boxing capital of Scotland and the fans are great. I miss fighting in Glasgow. The fans are fantastic and they always give me a great reception other than when I am fighting one of their own fighters.” He finished by adding: “I don’t think there is any rivalry between Edinburgh and Glasgow at all when I am fighting there, not when I am fighting someone else. They are brilliant.” Arthur has every reason to Scotland and win in real style and class, although he’s been absent from the ring for quite a while I still think he’s got what it takes to be a true champion.
