Boxing Daily Top Ten P4P Boxers

mayweather and his boxing belts

Boxing Daily hasn’t done a list of who we think are the best pound for pound fighter is the world in while, so here’s an update.

At Number One I still have to go with the welterweight “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather. With a record of (37 wins, 0 losses, 0 draws, 24KOs) and being a world champion at four different weights he has got to be my number one. He says he wants to retire after his huge fight with Oscar De La Hoya in June, but I am hoping that Floyd will fight Ricky Hatton soon, and then he can retire.

My Number two is the featherweight, but former two weight world champion, Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao, from the Philippines, has a record of (42-3-2, 34KOs) and he won his rubber match against Erik Morales with style. I would say Manny Pacquiao is near his best at the moment and hopefully we can see a rematch against Marco Antonio Barrera soon.

Marco Antonio Barrera is the Boxing Daily No.3 holding an amazing boxing record of (63-4, 42KOs) and the WBC super featherweight crown. Anyone who said that his career was finished was proven wrong with Barrera’s impressive victory over Morales and then Rocky Juarez in September.

After completely outclassing Ike Quartey, the WBC and WBA light middleweight champion, Winky Wright is the 5th best pound for pound fighter in the world. I would like to see a rematch between Wright and Jermain Taylor who is the Boxing Daily Number Six.

As the undisputed middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor has to be in my top ten. He continued his great boxing record of (26-0-1, 17KOs) when he defending his belts against Kassim Ouma. It would be really good to see if Taylor could fight Joe Calzaghe, although this would mean that either Joe Calzaghe losing weight or Taylor gaining weight.

WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe is Boxing Daily’s number six. He has dominated the super middleweight division for about a decade and is set to meet Peter Manfredo in Cardiff in April. As I said, I would like to see him fight Jermain Taylor or possibly Mikkel Kessler.

Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton comes in at number seven for me. Although he easily beat Juan Urango for the IBF belt, it was not a great display. If he can beat Mexico’s Jose Luis Castillo, and more importantly Floyd Mayweather, Hatton will go much higher in my list, probably to the number one spot.

At number eight is Oscar De La Hoya, a world boxing champion in six different weights. He takes a record of 38-4, 30KOs into his fight with Floyd Mayweather in May. He surprised many people with his awesome display against Ricardo Mayorga, perhaps he can produce a similar performance against Mayweather.

The number nine is: Bernard Hopkins (47-4-1, 32KOs) showed he was far from finished with his win over Ricardo Mayorga. Hopkins now wants to fight WBC Heavyweight champion, Oleg Maskaev, who I think he would beat.

Finally at number ten is IBF bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez. This guy has held to IBF belt since 2003 and he has shown the boxing world in he seven title defences that he can fight and box his way to a win.

Well that’s the Boxing Daily Top Ten Pound for Pound fighters at the moment.

What’s your top ten?

What do you think of the Boxing Daily Top Ten?

  1. i think if floyd mayweather wins against oscar de la hoya he should fight against miquel cotto. why? becuase i think cotto is much better then ricky hattin and i think ricky hattin is overated he is not that good. if floyd wins and cotto wins i think a cotto versus mayweather should unify the belts or cotto can fight him at 154 pounds it would be a great fight. mayweather should fight him becuase cotto is a new star and if floyd can beat cotto and then he’s pound for pound and he can retire as the best fighter of all- time.

  5. Ive seen few fights of mayweather and yes he is very smart when it comes to boxing but not my type cuz he is not up to tko/ko but usually up to scores only which is like a business fighter and not REAL fighter who fights and use his fists to knock down a fighter.I feel bored when i saw him fighting just for scores and not for tko/ko.I would say he cant be the number 1 pound 4 pound because he is USUALLY fighting for scores only(business fighters boy).

  6. I think mayweather is a great fighter but hes not a traditional boxer he doesnt hurt you when you leave the ring with him you dont feel hurt you dont think to yourself wow i just got beat but when you fight miguel cotto you cant realy walk out of the ring by yourself this someone is usually helping you its a scary difference and we all want to see cotto and mayweather fight but the truth is it wont be a blowout it will be a decision fight and either of them can win its not an easy fight for cotto because he doesnt fight many people like mayweather who are faster yet have great defensive capabilities cotto cant beat down on mayweather its not going to be simple if they fight but it will be one of the greatest fights of all time

  10. mayweather vs marquez is going to be an amazing fight to watch and once mayweather is done beating on marquez he better go on and fight paquio and if that happens it will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.(hopefully mayweather wins it and go into the boxing hall of fame)

  11. I think mayweather remains a boxer that appears once in a generation, he is unbeaten and shall remain un beaten and to prove this he will line up all this so called big boys and beat them up before both boxers and the public will agree with me that he is a boxer of generation.

  12. I think mayweather is the best boxer right now and may end up being the best of all time if he keeps his winning streak going. Also mayweather can beat anyone because hes smart and people say he can knock people out but if it came down to a knockout for him to win a match i can almost promise a ko by mayweather
