Both Marc Callaham and Esham Pickering have a lot to fight for in their British super bantamweight showdown on March 16th.
Callaham has admitted that after he lost his brother in 2002 his career has suffered, but he has now recovered to capture the English title, which he won last year.
“Esham’s a massive favourite,” said the 29-year-old Callaghan.
“But I’ve not boxed at my full potential yet, and I’ve not been helped by a few problems in my personal life.”
Marc Callagham ended up losing 5 out of 7 fights after losing his brother to Multiple Sclerosis but he bounced back by outpointing Sean Hughes for the English crown last March.
“I’ve been training even harder for this one than I would normally because it’s a great opportunity.
“I’ve just had a baby son called Charlie and that has given me even more incentive to win this fight.”
Pickering also has a great deal to fight for. He lost his lost his British, European and Commonwealth belts to Michael Hunter in 2005, lost to current European king Bernard Dunne last year and is looking to get back on to the world boxing stage.
Pickering has had two fights with former IBF world title challenger Michael Hunter, managing to get a draw in the first fight, but he ended up being stopped in their second fight.
Pickering also suffered a devastating defeat to Jackson Asiku in round one of their showdown for he vacant Commonwealth featherweight crown in 2005, although this was a fight he took at late notice.
