Calzaghe feeling on Top of the World

In a recent interview, super-middleweight champion, Joe Calzaghe, said that he still felt the best in the world.

Calzaghe feeling on top of the world

Calzaghe is now hoping for fight with either Jermain Taylor or Bernard Hopkins after his fight with Peter Manfredo on April 7th.

Calzaghe missed out on a big fight after he beat Jeff Lacy and admitted that it was annoying to not have got a big match up with another of the the greatest boxers in the world.

“Yeah its frustrating,”
Calzaghe said, “but its something I have got used to over the years.”

“After the Lacy fight I would have loved to have fought Hopkins, but unfortunately the promoters were not able to make it happen.”

But he said he was fighting Manfredo for a reason, “He [Manfredo] is a star, full stop. He is well know in America and in the UK. 30,000 tickets have been sold so that just goes to show what interest there is in this fight.”

“I’ve still got goals. I want to be a two weight world champion, I want to get past the 20 defences. Hopefully I can put a great performance on and this could lead to a fight with Jermain Taylor of Bernard Hopkins.”

“I still feel that I am the best in the world, the day I wake up and I’m not the best in the world, I’ll knock it [boxing] on the head”

Well I still believe that Calzaghe is the best in the world and I am really looking forward to his fight with Manfredo, a certain win for Calzaghe in my opinion.

However I would like to see Joe Calzaghe fight Mikkel Kessler before he changes any weight division or goes after any other fighters. Kessler is the only person in the super-middleweight division I see as capable of beating Calzaghe and I would like to see Calzaghe beat him so he can leave the super middleweight boxing division as the undefeated, undisputed champion.

What do you think?

  1. Sorry Calzaghe would not beat Kessler. If anything Kessler would knock him out of his mind. As it appears it seems you are out of your mind for thinking that Calzaghe would or even could beat Kessler. HELLO PEOPLE, CALZAGHE IS NOT THAT GREAT OF A FIGHTER. HE IS A POST ROY JONES JR. Jones would have beat the living shit out of him and then danced around the ring singing “YA’LL MUSTA FORGOT” Calzaghe is a nobody that needs to fight Kessler. he keeps dodging when asked about him. I beleieve calzaghe will get a beaten from Peter Manfredo here on the 7th. Manfredo probably wont win. but i bet he beats the hell out of Calzaghe.

  2. Hahahaha, you continually make bold statements with no basis. How could anyone with any knowledge of boxing actually think that manfredo would ‘beat the hell’ out of undefeated 8 year reigning champ Calzaghe. I’m afraid it was a complete mismatch and if you thought any different then you really just prove what a biased fool you are, have you ever watched a british boxer fight? Do you have a complete set of teeth? I have to hand it you though, using the internet to write that rubbish must have been a real challenge for you.

  3. good one there buddy… haha you crack me up… yes the fight was a miss match… but ya boy is bitch for taking on that MISS MATCH fight… how can someone that is so called great take on a fight like that? and I find it interesting that after the fight Manfredo was calling calzaghes punches weak that had nothing on them, they were slaps and that he did nothing but slap away.. Nothing even stunned or hurt Manfredo… he waved cal-man on for more… I laughed my ass off at that point. I was like damn Manfredo might have a chance, seeing that the punches were nothing more than fast little bitch slaps… over all the fight was a disgrace… Calzaghe WILL NEVER be any HOPKINS… NEVER! Hopkins would kill him anyway… knock him out with a body shot, just as he did the GREAT Oscar Del Hoya! Or even Felix Trinidad… or even Fernando Vargas… all of them… BIG NAMES… HOPKINS KILLED THEM ALL…. Now who has calzaghe fought of that caliber? Anyone??????

  4. My bad on the Vargas comment. Hopkins never fought Vargas (luckily for him) I was getting the fights mixed up with De La Hoya’s fight with him. But in all Hopkins actually has a record of beating people. Only PERSON in my mind that Hopkins has lost to was ROY JONES JR. In Roy’s prime not one fighter could touch him. Now days, is a different story. But I still say Roy could kick Calzaghes ASS even with his glass jaw that Tarver Exposed. Calzaghe doesn’t hit hard enough. I bet Roy Jones Jr would LAUGH and DANCE AROUND HIS WELSH ASS AND MAKE FUN OF HIS PIDDLE PAT PUNCHES! But this will never happen Jones still thinks he’s in the 90’s and can get big money. But it would be funny to see. ya boys ass would grass in just a FEW combos from the arsenal that Roy would expose to him…

  5. Calzaghes could end his career if he fought Kessler who I believe is in a different league. Kessler is the best boxer right now. Funny the americans havent noticed him yet.

  6. Man, this Wes idiot hates Joe C. No more comments for you.

We have noticed Kessler, but he looks more like a UFC guy that might kick somebody or try to tackle them in the ring than a true boxer. Although, I would really like to see Joe C box him, we are not convinced he is legitimate yet.

  7. haha dumb ass….. HELLO… and CALZAGHE IS legit?????????????? hahahahahahahahaha… go to sleep…. lol ONE WORD… RETARD…. o yeah STOP TALKING…. When CAL actually takes a FIGHT then you may put your half a 2 cents in. UNTIL then let’s talk about REAL BOXING and REAL BOXERS…. Like I have said before, if you want a hero and someone to look up to that is BRISTISH. Stick with HATTON… or even Kessler.

Jim Groser: I don’t believe Kessler is “The Best” but one day will be. Especially when he ENDS Calzaghe’s career, that’s if CALZAGHE doesn’t BITCH out (like always)!

  9. Calm down sissy boy. It’s only to promote the fight, you know like, make money? Idiot! Anyway to the point, Calzaghe IMO will loose to B-HOP due to frustration, being in Hopkins home (us) and having an American REF. It’s the same story that Calzaghe had against Manfredo. Hopkins is no different than any other fighter talking trash. It goes back to Ali, Tyson all the way up to Jones Jr, Mayweather do I need to continue? Soooo Calm down and wash your vagina out. Use tampons next time before you cry about it. Anyway back to the big boy’s sport of boxing. I see B-HOP winning a close controversial split decision over the SO called raining and defending (of nothing special) champ Joe Calzaghe. haha I’m still laughing about how worked up you bitch asses get…. keep it up little guy. This is great entertainment, free of charge.
