Super middle weight Mikkel Kessler has been recently sing your own praises that he is the best super middleweight in the world and has not been given notice from Joe Calzaghe.

Calzaghe Fends off Kessler\'s Verbal Jabs

The WBA champion, Kessler, meets WBC champion Markus Beyer in a unification fight this Saturday in Copenhagen; and claims that he has “no doubt” he is the best in the world. Mean while WBO and IBF champion Joe Calzaghe is destined to fight Sakio Bika on the same night at the MEN area in Manchester and says “Kessler’s the second-best super middle in the world, but I see myself beating him, like anyone else at the weight. I fancy Kessler to beat Beyer convincingly, so we will wait to see if the two of us fight further down the line.” He continued by saying: “Obviously I don’t want to go to Denmark and fight him, the same as he doesn’t want to come to Britain, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The superb Welshman Calzaghe holds an outstanding record of 41 wins from 41 fights with 31 coming from knockouts. And with having defended his WBO belt since 1997 and made 18 defences he is the longest reigning existing world champion in boxing. 27 year old Kessler is also undefeated and has a record of 37 wins from 37 fights of which 28 came from knockout. ‘The Viking Warrior’ said: “In my opinion there is no doubt that I am the best super middleweight in the world and I’m ready to fight anyone to prove that. And to Calzaghe: Let’s meet and find out! But right now the only thing on my mind is Beyer.”

The undefeated Calzaghe’s next opponent, Bika, fought Beyer in his last fight but the bout was stopped because of a cut under his right eye that was caused by an unintentional head butt. On the fight Calzaghe said: “Bika was very unlucky with the draw, I think he might have gone on to win that fight. But he’s going to find out that I am in a different league to Beyer, full stop. Bika’s a good fighter, he’s strong, he comes forward, he likes to try and land big punches - and that’s good for me.” He concluded by saying: “I always fight better against authentic fighters and I don’t think he’s going to stand back, he’s going to come to fight and you will see a great fight.”

Calzaghe Fends off Kessler

What’s Beyer on about?! Has he seen Calzaghe box? O.K he’s good, but Joe is in a class of his own and I would expect Joe to beat him quite comfortably. I hope these two do meet but before that we’ve got their bouts on Saturday – which should both be an interesting show.

Please leave your own thoughts on the up coming fights at the bottom of the page.
