World super middleweight title holder Joe Calzaghe has been chosen as the British Boxer of the Year.
It is no surprise the Welshman was handed the honour at the British Boxing Board of Control awards ceremonial on Thursday in London.34-year-old Calzaghe was most likely to pick up the prize after he amalgamated the WBO and IBF titles by defeating previously triumphant American Jeff Lacy back in March. Kevin Anderson’s breathtaking 10th-round stoppage triumph over Young Muttley was awarded the Contest of the Year.
Wales’ world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli shared the sportstmanship award with British rival Mark Hobson for their first fight this year. Hopefully in a few years we will see Amir Kahn collecting one of these prizes.
