Super Middleweight King Joe Calzaghe has warned Jermain Taylor he will only win the respect he craves if he faces a “genuine challenge” and he has called him a “chicken”.
As a Brit, I am a fan of Joe Calzaghe but after this latest statement I think he needs to shut up for a bit.
Chicken? No way is Taylor a chicken. He is a world champion who has won a number of belts and he has fought much harder fights than Calzaghe.
And what’s all this talk of Taylor needing to fight Calzaghe as a “genuine challenge“???
Has everyone forgot the Jermain Taylor has fought Bernard Hopkins….TWICE….and beat him….TWICE!
If anyone needs a genuine challenge its Calzaghe who has a firework free career with in my opinion only two really big fights, against Eubank to win the title and against Jeff Lacy.
Taylor is a much more worthy champion than Calzaghe, hands down!
“If I was offered $6m I’d go to Jermain Taylor’s back garden and let his mum be the referee” Calzaghe said.
This is of course more trash talk to hype any possible fight.
I also think that Calzaghe is insulting Taylor as he is getting disparate for a big fight as his time at the top is running out and he needs some more big fights to define his career.
I haven’t got a problem with Calzaghe wanted a big fight and wanting it really badly, but there is no need to start throwing insults at other boxers, ESPECIALLY if they are so much BETTER THAN YOU!

I Agree 110% with you. He is the one that needs the fight and he’s been ducking everyone and now HE really needs something, anything really. I talked to Roy Jones Jr this past weekend and he said Calzaghe wouldn’t even fight him unless Jones took less than 40% and would have to go to calzaghe’s back yard to fight. Of course we all know Jones. He just laughed at that. He told me that he would have fought Calzaghe IF the fight was here in the US and the winner gets 60% with the looser just getting 40%. Warren and Calzaghe didn’t even want to touch that offer. Which to me sounds fair, especially if you are as confidant as Calzaghe is, right? Haha I see who the REAL CHICKEN is here and it as sure as hell isn’t RJJ. The man just laughed at Calzaghe and said he was the biggest B*TCH in boxing. Well we’ll see when Joe absolutely anhiliates Hopkins. Joe has fought some poor fighters. The man has beaten half of them with broken hands. The fact is there is simply nobody out there for him to fight worthy of stepping in the same ring with him at this point in time. Jeff Lacy was hailed as the mini mike tyson and the future of super middle weight boxing - we all know what happened. It pisses me right off that his achievements go unrecognised in America - which hopefully will turn into a leper colony soon enough.

Well well well, I’m welcoming myself back to the Untied States with this comment on Calzaghe: I did not get the pleasure to watch it live. But Kessler didn’t do what i expected him to do. Calzaghe STILL slapped like a SISSY most of the fight but did have a BRICK JAW like I have always said he had. Kessler was maybe only stunned once but never tired and still fought till the end. He surely didn’t win. But calzaghe still did nothing impressive to me. Hatton is still the only great fighter (when it comes to a non-us fighter).

Calzaghe will wipe the floor with Hopkins. He can’t match his speed period! It will be the same story as Lacy. No fighter has ever EVER had Calzaghe’s speed. That and the fact that he can take hits and is in excellent shape. I will definitely admit he hasn’t had a lot of huge opponents, but thats because he’s really never had the respect he deserved. Ummm OK WES(you big mouth, giving Americans a bad name) lets not forget Hopkins ducking a fight with Calzaghe 6 years ago and apparently now as well. Also I never saw RJJ chomping at the bit to fight Calzaghe. RJJ, Hopkins, JT, Pavlik would all get beat by Calzaghe any day of the week. I’m an American and a Calzaghe fan because I can recognize a great boxer when I see one. Calzaghe is beyond great! The sad thing is it probably doesn’t matter who Calzaghe fights he will probably never get the respect he deserves. Ok I will say one last thing. As much of a fan as I am of Calzaghe, if the respect was so important to him as he says. He should have come and fought in the states more. I understand he draws the crowd in Wales. But fact is not fighting in the States did hurt his credibility all these years. I hope he fights Hopkins for the big name fight and then Jermain Taylor immediately after right here in the US. That would do wonders for his credibility and at least get him some respect! Then he can retire if he wants.

You guys crack me up. I’ve always said he had a JAW, (Kessler def proved me right on that perspective) along with speed (still nothing impressive, talk to me when you watch Money mayweather or a CLASSIC Jones Jr fight or even ZAB super judah or Sugar Shane Mosley, should I continue?, Now that is speed my friends). For the record; Jones Jr would run miles around cally boy even still today when it comes to speed, again something Ive always said. Calzaghe’s fast but has no power behind them slaps (talk to Manfredo, I believe he laughed at him and his little fairy punches) something again I have always said. Any who, I’ve been traveling a lot and haven’t had the time to get on this here little web site and read these little interesting responses about calzaghe. Hopkins vs Calzaghe goes like this IMO: Calzaghe comes out mildly fast slapping away, Hopkins waits and then counters effectively, following with cally slapping a lot more and wins a few rounds due to just being more active. Hopkins will then counter more aggressively and maybe clinch a few/a lot more , and as the fight goes on I see Hopkins clinching more and taking cal out of his game while landing harder more effective counters to hurt/slow him in the middle rounds, I see cal trying to come back by throwing LARGE amounts of bitch slaps that he is known for in the late rounds, (in america they will not fool anyone thinking that they are actually hurting B-HOP) I see B-HOP victorious due to the fact its his home advantage (same story cally had against Manfredo, Manfredo never had a chance, due to home court and the fat fucking donut eating ref). So the tables turn because now its an American ref, and to also add the fact that Hopkins has a great defense which is his offense and his punches will look more effective, clean and precise than cally’s girl punches and Hopkins’s will win a CLOSE controversial split decision that will piss people off, and at the end of the day everyone will say Pretty much what I just said, Cal never had a chance due to the ref, fighting in America etc. So don’t hate. Contemplate. I wish I could say this is another Ricky Hatton MURDERED by Mayweather story. But it wont. IT will be Hopkins wining as I stated above…. To add, I cant believe Hatton wants to risk his life and fight money again… It just breaks my heart because I like him. He is a true champ. SOMETHING CALZAGHE will NEVER BE, or ever even considered by many.

How childish of Calzaghe to say because he got knocked down in the first round by a hard puncher ( you know the one )he actually hit low in the second round on purpose because of this!!
If Calzaghe had not been ‘wet nursed’ and been allowed to have fought some ‘class’ fighters he would soon have been toppled from his post!
And by the number of right hands that Robin Reid hit him with he should have won ( even with the one point deduction ). A rematch - well no chance as Reid would take the fight. And I woner in this instance, can judges be bribed or whatever because Reid as sure as hell did not throw that fight, he should have been given the win.
