Calzaghe has said that his future goal is targeted firmly on the former four-weight champion Roy Jones and not Pavlik, the world middle weight champion.
“There is some talk about me fighting Kelly (and) a lot of people would love to see it,” Calzaghe said. “However, at this point in time I think it’s unlikely to happen.
“Talks are ongoing about me facing Roy Jones, a genuine legend of boxing and a previous four-weight world champion. That is a fight that I think can be made.”
It’s a fight that Calzaghe has been looking forward to.
For the past few years, Calzaghe has been around the world looking for the biggest names in his divisions, the light heavy-weight and the super middleweight champion. at around 170 pounds.
Before Calzaghe won his first belt at the super middleweight against Chris Eubank in 1997, Jones was a lightweight title holder
By his own admission, Jone was facing a different direction at the time, he also said that 36 year old Welshman was a strong opponent back then.

“when I was the best boxer pound-for-pound in the world (intermittently between 1994 and 2003) it wouldn’t have been smart for me to go and fight Joe,’ Jones said. ‘You don’t go to somebody else when you’re the best, they must come to you, so I wouldn’t take the risk (at that time). And why would I? Why would I meet that challenge when I’m already the best? Why would I go to your country and give you a chance to allow the powers-that-be to take a close decision and give it to you?’
But things have changed.
He has beaten and is the super middleweight champ in the world and about two months ago and has risen to the light heavyweight to take away the world championship belt from Hopkins
He was made CBE at the Queens Birthday Honours List in his contribution to Wales.

If Calzaghe wants his legacy defined by beating up on old men that’s his prerogative,but he better not go around claiming to be pound for pound .That title he will never wear with the patty cake safety first style of boxing he brings into the ring every time he fights..

Calzahhe is a good fighter but avoided all the big fights, beating roy jones now an old man wont be any good for his rep.
