Chris Byrd Looks Sluggish Going Down to Shaun George

Former heavyweight boxing champion Chris Byrd had to lose forty pounds to fight against Shaun George in a light heavyweight bout in Las Vegas.

Bryd looked slow, sluggish and physically drained as he came into the ring at just 174lbs. George sent Bryd to the Canvas in the very first round and also knocked him about a fair bit in the second.

This was a sign of things to come as it was nearly all one way traffic from then on. George dropped Bryd twice again in the ninth. Despite beating the count on the first knockdown, Byrd was clearly unable to continue after second and the referee stopped the fight at 2:45 into round 9. Even without this, George was still ahead by 79-72 on all the judges scorecards.

This will come as a harsh blow to 37 year old Byrd, who was hoping to make a name for himself in this division. However he has now lost 3 of his last 4 fights, is it time to give up?

What did you think Shaun George’s victory?

Do you think Chris Byrd should retire?
