British IBF light heavyweight champion, Clinton Woods, will be defending his crown against Julio Gonzalez of Mexico in Las Vegas on 23 June.
The last time these two boxers met was in September of 2005 in Sheffield, Woods’ home town, where he won on a points decision.
This fight is obviously on a much bigger stage as it is in Las Vegas and it will take place on the same boxing card as Ricky Hatton’s fight against Jose Luis Castillo.
Clinton Woods is making a return to the ring after he had to have surgery on his shoulder following a torn arm tendon injury that he sustained in his fight against Glen Johnson last September.
Boxing promoter Dennis Hobson, who currently is promoting both Hatton and Woods said that although the injury has been a setback to Woods’ career, this upcoming fight will get him back on track.
“After the Johnson fight, in a way Clinton lost a little bit of momentum because of the injury,” Hobson said.
“That’s cleared up now - although not as quickly as we wanted it to.
“We’ve got the massive bonus with Ricky fighting in Vegas too and Clinton will be a double-header on the same bill.
“I always wanted to showcase Clinton in the States as he is a completely different fighter.”
Clinton Woods is won of Britain’s best boxers and his record of 40 wins in 44 fight shows it. I am really looking forward to this night of boxing on the 23rd of June as two of Britain’s best boxers, Hatton and Woods are both fighting big fights in Las Vegas. I think it will be great night of boxing.
What do you think?
