David Diaz may be the underdog by a fairly large margin for his upcoming fight with Manny Pacquiao, but that didn’t stop the boxing champion charming 500 Pacquiao boxing fans in California!
The boxing fans were obviously their to watch Pacquiao train later in the day, but they were nonetheless impressed by Diaz.
The West Wind Gym was simple packed as boxing fans from across the Bay area came to watch the two fighters prepare for what could be the most exciting fight this year. Diaz began with some shadow boxing before talking to the crowd and trying out a few jokes.
Diaz pretended to stop his workout after 30 seconds claiming, “If you show too much, then Manny knows too much.” which drew some laughs out of the crowd.
Diaz continued with warming up the crowd saying:
“I know you guys really came here to see me and not Manny…”
“I know most people don’t give me a chance, but I know I can do it, and my corner knows, and that’s all that matters.”
Manny Pacquiao arrived a few hours later and trained impressively with his coach Freddie Roach and apparently the session included some of Pacman’s trademark, lightening mitt work.
At that point Diaz was signing autographs and talking to the fans saying:
“It’s important to come and meet with the fans and let them know you’re fighting for them,”
“There’s a lot of responsibilities in promotion (for this fight), but I know it’s all for the good of the sport.”
We have all been waiting a fair while for Pacquiao to move up to lightweight, and in four weeks he will show whether he can still put in amazing, world class performances with the extra weight.
Diaz and Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas for the title in just four weeks, are you looking forward to the fight?
Do you think Pacquiao can make the step up?
