Personally I think that the man is a boxing legend, but every time I bring his name up in a conversation (usually with people who know very little about boxing) they give me a strange look for admiring him and they usually say something like “that thing is an animal”.

WHY?!
Why is there so much hatred towards Mike Tyson?
Why are people always having a go at him?
I admit that Mike isn’t exactly squeaky clean, but there is no reason for this sentiment towards him. People always bring up that rape case and there is not much I say against that. Mike was conviction and therefore he was guilty even though many people think that the case was too close to call, as is often the case in rape trials. But even if he did do it, he has been to prison, lost a chunk of his life at his prime and therefore he has paid his debt to society. People should leave that one alone now, its over.
Another thing that really annoys me is when people say, “Oh yeah Mike Tyson, isn’t he that guy who bit that other guy’s ear off? What an animal!” My exact verbal response to this is not fit to publish as I know young boxers read this site.
The people that say this have probably just seen a clip of it on youtube or on TV. They have not watched the entire fight, as I have many times. Evander Holyfield is the real culprit, he is the “animal”. If you watch the fight you will see him head butt Mike Tyson no less than 15 times during the fight, and multiple time during the fight before. This is as much against the rules of boxing as biting is. After the fight Tyson had a 3 inch cut above his eye from Holyfield’s dirty tricks. You see plenty of close up’s of Holyfield’s ear after Mike bit it, and you see Holyfield jumping up and down like a little girl, but you don’t see much of Mike injuries.
Mike Tyson was suspended from boxing as result of this and he was shunned by many boxing and sports fans. Holyfield received NO BAN even though he had broke the rules of boxing as much as Mike Tyson had.
Why don’t people mention the good, no AMAZING things that Mike Tyson has achieved? He was the youngest boxing heavyweight world champion ever! He went on a run of 37 wins and 33 KO’s and was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world for a fair time, and a dominant force in the division and in boxing for a significant period. He was the first boxer since Muhammad Ali to hold all three titles and rule as Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.
In my opinion Mike Tyson is one of the greatest boxers ever and he is in my top five heavyweights of all time.
Everyone should just lay off him.
Why do you hate Mike Tyson?

Let’s not forget his vulgar public relations & when he whipped out his penis at a live press conference & the fact that he got that ugly-ass tattoo on his face. Otherwise, I agree in his prime Tyson was the greatest.

I agree - Tyson was an awesome fighter!
Holyfield deserved it as his behaviour was disgraceful, much worse than Tyson

Someone like Mike Tyson needed people around who could protect him from himself. However he had people more interested in the money and fame. They didn’t bring up the MAN with the FIGHTER. So now he will be remembered as joke instead of a amazing boxer. No matter what it is insane to bite a chunk of an ear off and any man who would do that will be looked as an animal.

I think there’s a great deal of difference between admiring Tyson’s boxing skills and admiring Tyson as a person. As a person, I think he’s a troubled man with some major flaws.
As a boxer back when he was in his prime, he was one of the best of all time, no question in my mind.

No i would never say that i hate mike tyson i may not like his behaviors and tendencies but you must never forget of how talented he was, yes he lost the big one to buster douglas yes embaressing but i recall him demolishing larry holmes outpunching and just in general out boxing larry to a ko victory, I also recall when tyson was faced up against michael (jinx) spinks yes iron sure did throttle michael hell it was a body shot that put the jinx on the canvas, Another fight i recall was The destruction of the heavy hitter tony tubbs in the tokyo dome in the 4th round, What about when tysons show of extreme power with controlled aggression against trevor berbick for his first belt it was i believe the second round ko, these are just a few of tysons more memorable victories in his career, I just beg everyone to look at who he was as a fighter and how he was raised on the streets of brooklyn, he is i believe one of the last busy heavyweight fighters, a fighter that fought at least 6 times a year in his reign not once a year, he is not the most respectable guy with the law but, he was one of the most talented boxers in history at his class.
