Howard Eastman believes that there is the possibility that he can retrieve his world champion dreams by beating Richard Williams in their middleweight title fight this Friday.
36-year-old Eastman has lost his previous three bouts; even though they have all been against very good opponents and with controversial decisions he still believes he will be able to “bounce back”. He said: “I’m putting the defeats behind me and learning from the experience. Mick Hennessy (Eastman’s promoter) has got some plans for me, to get me back into the world zone.”
Eastman was clearly beaten last February by the awesome Bernard Hopkins but claimed to be worthy opposition for the incredibly talented American. The Briton other controversial defeats came against Arthur Abraham and Edison Miranda however the “Battersea Bomber” is extremely confident that the losing streak will soon finish against his long-time pal; Richard Williams, when they clash on Friday’s for the vacant British middleweight crown. “For me, losing is not even an option. It doesn’t even come in to this. My mission is not complete yet,” said Eastman. “I will put up a show against Richard, win that belt, and we can see where we go from there.”
Personally I think Eastman is over the hill but I admire him greatly for being so determined and strong-willed.
