Ricky Hatton beat Juan Lazcano last weekend, but his former promoter Frank Warren thinks that enough is enough for the Hitman.
Warren claims that Hatton hasn’t had a good fight since Kostya Tszyu three years ago (Warren excludes the Castillo fight) and in his boxing column in “The Sun” he goes on to say:
“The terrific movement and boxing skills that helped him get to the top have disappeared, possibly for good.”
“Yet the real reason for his decline is Hatton can no longer avoid punches and is walking on to punches far too often.”
“Quite simply, he is not the same fighter any more. After the Lazcano fight, his banged-up face made him look the loser.”
I wouldn’t go as far as Warren has in his criticism of Hatton, but I will acknowledge that he is losing his edge a bit, and needs to sharpen up if he wants to impress boxing fans.
Yes, I am going to have a go at Ricky Hatton’s lifestyle. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t do these things, but he must accept that over eating and drinking is taking its toll on his career. Discipline is probably the most important quality in sportsmen and separates the good from the great. This is something Frank Warren has obviously seen as well
“Hatton came into the ring wearing a fat suit as a jibe at all the critics who have taken issue with his weight gain between fights.” said Warren.
“It is all very well being one of the lads but his lifestyle confirms its toll on his career.”
There is talk of Hatton fighting Paul Malignaggi next, but honestly I thought that Paul Malignaggi was pretty dull when he faced Lovemore N’Dou recently. Even so, Rick Hatton will need to step his game up to secure a victory against even an opponent like Paul Malignaggi.
Who do you think Ricky Hatton should fight next?
Is the Hitman losing his edge?

AGAIN, FRANK WARREN IS TRASH!
