On the 7th August, WBA heavyweight champion, Nikolai Valuev left his hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia to head to Armenia where he and his trainer Manuel Gabrielian will begin 3-weeks of long and tiring training for his next bout. He is the first Russian ever to defend a heavyweight world championship and is likely to be defending his title in October in the USA. The venue and his opponent are yet to be decided upon.

Valuev previously defended his WBA belt at the beginning of June against Owen Beck in Hannover, Germany. The 320-pounder won by a knockout in the third round. He then stayed in Germany for a while with his family for the world cup but since the end of July, he has been training and concentrating fully on the next fight.
