Audley Harrison was smashed to the canvas last night by a big left hook from Michael Sprott in the third round of their heavyweight clash in London.
The defeat now makes Harrison’s record show three loses in 14 months, not great for someone who wants to be a world champion.
Although Harrison began well, flooring Sprott in the first round with a soid combination of powerful punches, Sprott survived the round to comeback and knock out the former Olympic Champion. Sprott was landing some good jabs in the following couple of rounds before the massive left hook that sent Harrison to the floor.
Harrison was flat out for the entire count and he took a while getting up whilst Sprott was celebrating his victory.
Harrison still thinks, despite his poor performance, that he can make a comeback:
“Definitely,” said Harrison. “I knocked him down first round which made me go away from the game plan a little bit and I didn’t respect his power.
“I’ll rectify it. I made a mistake tonight - he caught me with a shot fair and square which is boxing.”
Harrison said he was hoping there was still a chance of a rematch.
“All credit to Michael Sprott because I didn’t see the shot coming,” he said.
“But I’ll be back and hopefully I will have a chance to rectify it with Michael Sprott straight away.”
But Sprott, on the other hand, insisted that a rematch with Harrison was not on the cards.
“I want to fight Matt Skelton and get the world title,” he said. “I’ve had enough of rematches - I’m moving on.”
So is it all over for Audley Harrison?
Can he still get a world title or is he finished now?
