Scott Harrison’s promoter, Frank Warren, has said that Harrison’s fight with Nicky Cook will only happen if the WBO featherweight champion is released from jail on Monday.
Harrison, who is 29 years old, has been in a Spanish jail since the 6th October over accusations of assault. But if Harrison does not fight on the 9th of December he may lose his WBO title. Warren was attending Alex Arthur’s European super-featherweight title fight against Sergio Palomo at the Kelvin Hall, where the Edinburgh fighter defended his crown with a fifth-round stoppage.
He told reporters that he has doubts as to whether the Cook bout will go ahead: “If he doesn’t get released tomorrow, I think there is a problem,” said Warren. “Scott is due up on court on Monday. And the judge will decide whether he has charges to answer to or whether he will get bail. But he has got time, he has been training in prison and he had been training in Ireland and over here. If he gets out, and providing he is medically and physically fit to box, then there is still a chance the fight goes on.”
Warren finished by saying: “We will know one way or the other tomorrow.” But if I’m honest with you, I think that if Harrison is guilty of the charges against him then he doesn’t deserve to fight and should have his title stripped from him and for it to go vacant.
