Only 21 days after he won the belt in Las Vegas, Ricky Hatton has been forced to give up his IBF boxing crown.
Hatton wants to fight Mexican Jose Luis Castillo in June and therefore he must give up his belt to N’Dou.
Personally I really can’t blame Hatton for this. He, and the Castillo fight, are bigger and more important than the IBF belt. As Hatton’s promoter said, “It is the biggest fight of Ricky’s career”.
Another interesting thing that I heard Ricky’s promoter Dennis Hobson say is. “Unfortunately, N’Dou’s people weren’t exactly ringing my phone off the hook trying to make something happen”
Hmmmm….
It is pretty obvious what the N’Dou camp were trying to do. They know that he would not stand a chance against Hatton, so they don’t really want to fight him. Therefore they dragged their feet over a fight in the hope that Ricky would give up the belt, as he has, and then N’Dou can simply collect his world title.
The amount of different belts available in boxing today and the amount of rules and regulations that come with them is spoiling the sport. This guy N’Dou is now a “world champion” but he is clearly not the best boxer in his weight division.
What do you think?
Do you think that it is wrong that Hatton is striped of his belt and N’Dou is now the IBF world champion?
