David Haye, the man that wants to be the first british heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis, has turned down a fight with Matt Skelton, and said that he would “rather retire from boxing”, than work with Frank Warren again.
Warren offered £600000 to Haye for a fight in the autumn with the 40 year old commonwealth champion Skelton. The cruiser weight king called the offer “derisory”. And stated scorned Warren saying: “I’ll make at least double Warren’s figure in my next fight”.
Also in response Haye said that, “they already gift wrapped Enzo Maccarinelli for me to obliterate in a couple of rounds and now they want to wheel out the company’s granddad on his Stannah stair-lift for a beating”. On the subject of Warren he said that “Frank Warren is obsessed with me. He should stop throwing me handouts and either donate the money to a more worthwhile charity or get his own house in order”.
Hays, whose Hayemaker Promotions has signed on to hold his next four fights in the O2 arena in London, wanting to fight the former undisputed heavyweight king Hasim Rahman in the autumn. Haye, after obliterating Enzo Maccarinelli of Wales in March, became the new cruiser weight champion, and now has plans to fight against the top 10 ranked heavyweights before challenging the current champion, Wladimir Klitschko, in 2009.
Do you think that Haye can make it to heavyweight champion?
Will Frank Warren keep on trying to get a fight with Haye?
