Bernard “The Execution” Hopkins defeated Winky Wright in their top of the bill boxing showdown in fabulous Las Vegas.
Two judges scored the fight 117-111 to Hopkins and the other gave the bout a 116-112 score.
Hopkins said: “It was a tough fight, a very close fight,”
“Winky’s tough and he kept on coming so I had to use the bait-and-fish.”
“You put the bait out there, the fish gets a little closer, you pull it back, and then you finally catch the fish.”
During the fight, it was Winky Wright who was really the more aggressive most on the time. However, Bernard Hopkins was able to slip and dodge his way out of trouble. Hopkins also was smothering Winky’s attacks by tying him up when they were close together.
Winky Wright still thinks he should have won though:
“I won the fight. It was a dirty fight. He was head-butting all day,” he said. “I thought I won the fight, but it was a close fight. I’m good, though.”
In round three, the pair clashed heads and this opened up a cut above Winky’s eye and he was forced to turn away and take a knee.
“He was coming towards me and I was going under and it definitely was an accidental head butt,” Hopkins said. “It happens a lot when you fight southpaws.”
Before this fight, many people were saying that this fight would be boring as both Hopkins and Wright are famed for being great counter punchers, but not great attackers. However the fight was quite good and the pair often exchanged entertaining flurries that would please any boxing fan.
Bernard Hopkins said some of the fury unleashed in the fight may have come from the incident at the weigh in where Hopkins hit Winky in the face,
Hopkins said:
“What happened the other day was part of the hype for the fight, and obviously manifested itself in the ring because we both came to fight tonight.”
Hopkins said that after defeating Wright that he would like to continue fighting and would like to take on unbeaten WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe of Britain.
“I want Joe Calzaghe next. Tell him to come over here and we’ll fight and then he won’t be undefeated.”
Personally I think that Hopkins would murder Calzaghe. Bearing in mind that Jermain Taylor beat Hopkins twice, Calzaghe contemplating beating Taylor is laughable. However, it would be good to see a fight between Hopkins and Calzaghe and perhaps this will take place after Calzaghe fights Kessler.

HAHA…. calzaghe will probably DIE before he stepped in the RING with B-HOP. He wont even last with Kessler. Calzaghe, again like i have ALWAYS said is the biggiest bitch in boxing. And when he actually takes a REAL fight. I WILL BE THE FIRST TO LAUGH at all you CHUMPS and RETARDS that think he is great. lol… you dumb asses…. i cant wait. YOU ALL ARE FOOLS to think Calzaghe is anything more than a 3rd class fighter… maybe 4th class… shoot HE BARLEY beat Manfredo…. lol all i sat is COME TO AMERICA and fight a REAl fight YOU LITTLE WALES FAG….. haha… man i cant wait…. B-HOP at the age of 55 could take Calzage…. anyway…. B-HOP is still the man, and I hope the kessler fight with Calzaghe is canned. Because i want to see an unbeaten Calzaghe step in the wring and PISS himself when he faces B-HOP….

After the fight WINKY is the real winner. BHOP just using his head crash the left eye of WINKY coz he knows that he has no match against the defense and the jabs of WINKY. During first round and second round it is really clear that BHOP is an old brat which is totally beaten by WINKY’s offense. Eventhough in the later rounds despite of his WINKY’s cuts he still bump the god damned BHOP… There must be a rematch…

haha naa I watched the fight 3 times. B-HOP won hands down. I like Winky. But he didnt do anything at all. B-HOP landed the hardiest and more accurate punches. Winky yes chased him around the ring. But B-HOP just did what he ALWAYS does, and that’s punch, punch clinch… punch punch clinch and dose not let the other guy do anything. Winky’s face was bashed. AND not his upper eye from the head butt. I’m talking about his FACE in general. That was a pretty easy fight to score if you ask me. The FIST JT, B-HOP fight was harder than the Winky B-HOP fight. The second JT and B-HOP fight was easy too. B-HOP won that fight! Over all B-HOP won and he should do ONE of TWO things….. fight Joe Calzaghe or retire…. He was in excellent condition but he did look slow. I think he still has ONE good fight left in him. Winky I believe can still go on for a few more, but just a few… hes getting up there in age.

haha all don’t get mad there kiddo, I know how you feel. it was like when i watched the De La Hoya and Mayweather fight, I was upset over that results, it should have been a draw if not that then De La Hoya winning. But you have to learn to deal with it little guy. It’s all good. B-HOP won the fight hands down EASY! But like I said he’s OLD and maybe has ONE good fight in him, just as Calzaghe does. Which will be the one where he falls hard on his a$$ and I will be the first to laugh.
