One of the greatest pictures in boxing is Muhammad Ali on the floor after being knocked out by Smokin’ Joe Frazier’s infamous left hook.

The Hook is a fairly difficult punch to learn but it can be extremely effective.
The best aspect of the hook is that it comes from outside your opponent’s vision. The hook comes around from the side, so unless you are boxing someone with eyes on the side of there head, the chances are they won’t see it coming.
So to throw a hook you begin in you basic boxing stance. This is for the right hook. For a left hook do the same but opposite, i.e. right changes in left, left changes to right. You then twist your body sharply to the left and shift your weight onto your right foot. You then bring your left elbow up, the your wrist rigid with the arm. Then pull your fist into your opponent.
Some boxers that were notorious for their left hooks include, Evander Holyfield and Joe Frazier.
Also a great deal of Central American boxers seem to use the hook to the body a lot.
A good way to improve your hook is by watching professional boxers and how they throw it. Then try to emulate what they do in your boxing.
