Thats right, Laila Ali wasted no time at all in winning her boxing fight against Gwendolyn O’Neil of Guyana, as she knocked her opponent out in round 1.
Laila Ali therefore retains her WBC and WIBA world boxing titles and her record now stands at 24-0 with an impressive 21 KO’s.
Usually when I write about Laila Ali, I introduce her as the daughter of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. However the way things are going, Laila is doing extremely well on her own, and although it is unlikely that she will ever become bigger than her father, I now believe that she needs no such introduction, as she has built up an impressive reputation for herself.
It only took a couple of straight right handed punches to knock-out the challenger and so Ali apologised to the boxing fans present at her South African boxing show for the briefness of the fight.
“I would have liked to have shown the fans a few more rounds,” she said. “But, hey, I’m happy with the KO.”
“I was out to make it quicker than the last time, but I did not expect it to be this quick.”
Ali barely made the 168-pound weight limit at Friday’s weigh-in.
“This will be my last fight for a while,” said Ali, who previously said she plans to have a family.
What do you think of Laila Ali’s boxing career so far and her 56 second win against Gwendolyn O’Neil?
