Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr

Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr

It looks as though we are probably going to see Roy Jones Jr as the next opponent for undefeated world super middleweight champion, Joe Calzaghe.

Whilst Roy Jones is no where near as good as he was at his prime, he still put in an impressive display against Felix Trinidad and so could provide a challenge for Joe Calzaghe.

I think the key thing in the fight will be fitness and stamina. Roy Jones is an experienced boxer but he is past his prime and so I would give Calzaghe the edge over 12 rounds. But unlike Calzaghe, Roy Jones CAN PUNCH and so if he can land a few solid punches, we could see an early KO, this is the most likely scenario I see if we are to get a Roy Jones victory.

What do you think the Roy Jones Jr – Joe Calzaghe fight will be like?

We want your fight predictions and opinions on the two fighters, so go ahead and post a comment below.

Are you looking forward to the Joe Calzaghe – Roy Jones Jr fight?

Who will come out victorious: Roy Jones Jr or Joe Calzaghe?

  1. I think Roy Jones’ speed will neutralize Calzaghe’s efforts and make him fight a “Roy Jones” paced fight. It’ll frustrate Joe and cause him to become impatient and make mistakes that Roy can capitalize on. Let’s be real. A Roy that’s “past his prime” is still faster and more agile than the majority of his opponents. He’s also one the greatest counter punchers the sport has ever seen, often beating opponents to the punch. In any sport ‘Speed Kills”! Roy wins! Methodically.

    Bert Sugar Jr. LOL!

He proved that by repeatedly eating hard uppercuts in the Kessler fight. Nevertheless in any sport ‘Speed Kills”! Roy wins! Methodically.

  3. calzaghe is so stupid! He should just walk away now, while hes still undefeated. One loss, and his legacy as the greatest boxer britain has produced will be shattered. He could quite easily become a washed-up over the hill figter who doesn’t kow hen to hang up his gloves. This being said, i would still hae to give the fight to calzaghe. He is too quick for the old guys (as shown against Hopkins) and even some of the young guys (Kessler). He would be fighting Jones at super Mid,and i would expect calzaghe to knock him out in the eighth

  4. JOE CALZAGHE DOES NOT HAVE THE NATURAL SKILLS AND ANALYTICAL ASPECT OF BOXING THAT ROY HAS!HE CANNOT OUT BOX ROY JONES!! SO HE HAS TO PRESS AND PRESS AND JONES WILL COUNTER AL NIGHT! NOW HER’S WHERE THE DANGER LIES.WE SEEN HOPKINS DROP CALZAGHE WITH A LEAD RIGHT STRAIGHTAND HE WAS DAZED AFTERWARD. ROY JONES WILL LAND ALOT CLEANER AND HARDER SHOTS. ALSO CALZHAGE HAS THE TENDACY TO THROW WILD FLURRIES WITH THE IMPACT OF A SLAP THAT ROY CAN EASYLY COUNTER.JOE CANT TAKE THOSE UNORTHIDOX POWER STRAIGHTS FROM ROY! AND AS FAR AS 12 ROUNDS ROY IS CONDITIONED TO FIGHT 12 ROUNDS HE WONT TIRE WE SEEN THAT IN THE TRINIDAD FIGHT.ROYS FASTER STRONGER SMARTER AND HUNGRY AND IF HE EMPLOYS PHYSICAL TRAINER MACKIE ITS A WRAP FOR CALZAGHE!!JONES BY STELLAR KNOCKOUT

  5. Calzaghe is not a puncher, he is a slapper. He’s overrated and Jones will prove it come Nov. I predict Jones wins in 6 by way of knock out.

  6. Calzaghe is a JOKE… THE U.S. “GAVE” him the fight with HOPKINS. Calzaghe will be in for A BIG surprise wants he gets in the ring with even a GLIMPSE of what Jones was. Roy’s speed and power alone is far more advanced than FAGZAGHE HAS EVER seen. I will say if it goes all 12 rounds the wold be the ONLY way Calzaghe could steal the fight. Jones will not tire with a bitch of a fighter like little joey… DUDES A FAG, and Jones will win easy. Pavlik would KO Calzaghe inside of 3 rounds, SO GOOD ON FAG BOY NOT TO FIGHT PAVLIK… anyway JONES BY KO…. calzaghe is the bitch of boxing, along side is manger FRANK WARREN…. both are nothing but British fags!!!!

  7. Calazghe has won everything. Jones is great and possibly still dangerous. Tactically they are both great fighters. I thought Hopkins was going to defeat Joe, was not to be. Its going to be a scrapy fight, because both dont want to be hit, yet want to be in and out. I give Joe the edge just because he has been fighting more and is in shape.

  8. You cannot dismiss Calazghe’s effots. He’s a great fighter. I have watched him many times. He adapts great. He’s beaten everyone. I would definately say RJ is the most dangerous to date. I still think Calazghe should retire even now. He does not need RJ as hes fought well and beaten some great fighters.

    Comment by James — August 27, 2008 @ 12:07 pm

  9. joe will outclass jones. jones is slightly stronger but calzaghe ’s hand speed and movement will be the key component of his success. joe doesnt get hit solidly too often because he dodges puches too quickly.
    calzaghe will win on points

    Comment by ali — September 1, 2008 @ 3:45 pm

  10. calzaghe has heard people say how badly he is gping to get beat so many times and yet no1 has cum close .
i promise you one way or another joe will win .

  11. I like joe, but i don’t think he is good enought to defeat Roy Jones!

    Comment by Clare — September 3, 2008 @ 12:08 pm

  12. Easy… Calzaghe win by points, unfortunatly its going to be a little bit boring but Im a Calzaghe man all the way !

  13. My predictions is this fight if it goes the distance will be a long and grueling fight for both men, if you look at both mens records you would see roy jones though one of the sports greatest punchers ever does not have too many decision wins in his career, not saying joe calzaghe does In a comparison if you look at both fighters significant wins. Roy jones:James toney, Bernard Hopkins, Felix trinidad, Prince badi ajamu, and of course john ruiz now joe calzaghe:Bernard hopkins, Mikkel Kessler, other than those two fighters i dont ssee to many other impressive wins, but my personal prediction is if goes the distance roy jones by split or if not jones by tko or by calzaghe rtd, think wat you will of my prediction i just dont see roy jones losing this fight, I am looking very forward to this boxing match good luck to both competitors and for gods sake lets get some good officiating and judges Thank you all and one more thought jones has got more depth and vigor to his fighting style than calzaghe has ever had good luck to you roy im pulling for you bud lets get it done.

  14. THOUGH JONE JR IS NO JOKE I THINK CALZAGHE WILL HANDLE HIM. YOU ALL PROBABLY WROTE HIM OFF AGAINST HOPKINS, LOOK WHAT HAPPENED THERE.
CALZAGHE HAS BEEN DOWN 3 TIMES IN HIS CAREER ALL FLASH KNOCKDOWNS AND HAS COME BACK TO WIN THE FIGHT, ALTHOUGH JONES WAS A GREAT FIGHTER HIS LEGS ARE NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE, HE HAS A TENDANCY TO LAY BACK ON THE ROPES FOR TO LONG HOPING TO LAND A GOOD COUNTER, NOT A GOOD IDEA WITH CALZAGHE. JOE DOES NOT HAVE 1 PUNCH KO POWER BUT WHAT HE DOES HAVE IS THE ABILLITY TO LAND FAST AND ACCURATE COMBINATIONS AND PUNISH HIS OPONENT WHEN THEY ARE ON TH ROPES. EITHER WAY ITS GONNA BE A GREAT FIGHT.

    CALZAGHE UD OR LATE STOPPAGE

    Comment by MATT — September 9, 2008 @ 12:51 pm

  15. I think it will go 12 rounds and some people say that if roy can get into calzaghe then he will knock him out but he has to get in first and calzaghe is a very concentrated fighter and that’s why he is undefeated.

    Comment by Dan Jones — September 12, 2008 @ 7:35 pm

  16. All you yank niggers always back the BLACK guy. Jones is an old piece of shit past him time nigger. Calzaghe is going to demolish Jones!! He’s undefeated for a reason ya know. An i don’t think some past-his-time jungle monkey is gonna change that. Fuck you all!!!

    Comment by Slag — September 25, 2008 @ 10:31 pm

  17. eloquent comment there dickhead. its people like you that give americans a bad name. with all of your references to fags you obviously have many latent homosexual tendencies. roy jones to win by knockout.

    Comment by mack — September 26, 2008 @ 10:21 pm

  18. I really want to see Calzaghe win. Roy Jones is a great fighter but for Calzaghe to retire being undefeated will be unreal.

    Comment by Ryan — September 29, 2008 @ 10:52 am

  19. jr is the better fighter but is over the hill, if jr counters and stays defensive then calzage will get frustrated and jr should be able to knock him out. and calzaghe will have no answer for jrs speed because he has a very light punch. but on the other hand if calzage can get into a rythnm, (as you saw against lacey and future world champion kessler) against a desperate jr with something to prove, then it could become 46 n 0 for joe, PS WES U YANK PRICK GO SUPER SIZE AT MC DS U FAT AMERICAN BIATCH!

  20. This fight should have happened 8 years ago for it to have had any significance. Calzaghe wins this in 12 rounds with roy failing to keep up with calzaghes’s pace. There is still achance of Jones catching him early while he is still fresh but i doubt it. It would be a shame if calzaghe retires after this fight when he is just begining to get international respect. Truth is he has ducked the best fighters till later in his career. I would like to see him against Dawson who just beat Tarver

    Comment by mica — October 12, 2008 @ 5:04 pm

  21. calzaghe will come forward and jones will pick him off, I say the reff stops the fight round 3-7 .with jones the winner tko.

  22. You guys dont have a clue joe c will as he does in every other fight do more than slap and more than a win and when he does win i hope he gets the respect that he deserves becouse he does the mans bin defending his titles for over a decade this british boxer who trains in a shed in the welsh vallys is going to beat roy j jnr so come to terms with it hes undefeated for the simple fact he wont be beaten good luck and respect to joe calzaghe

  23. Roy jones outclased at hand speed my friend no it will go like this joe will come out bobin like british boxers do (im english btw) will take 4 good hits and start pummels jones jones hits the deck gets up looking shaken but carries on it gets to the 4th and jones hits him with a flurry of combo counters and joe hits the floor if not it goes to the 8th and rjj will loose by tko or calaslappy looses coz he hurts his hand ..poor joe :’( even shed a tear for him

    Comment by ADAM — October 15, 2008 @ 8:13 pm

  24. Calzaghe all the way! everyone doubts him but look at him and his record! never been defeated. come on JOE!! legend!

    Comment by Ryan — October 22, 2008 @ 3:34 pm

  25. what i love about the comments against calzaghe is that everyone he fights is past their prime etc, joe is 36, jones is 39, there is not alot of difference guys, neither guys are in their prime so its going to come down to who is the better fighter instinctively at the end of the day and then we will see the fan boys throw in the ”past his prime” cry as usual.
in my opinion this is a calzaghe decision, jones is fast, calzaghe is fast and never slows down, he punches in bunches and makes people pay for fighting off the back foot. jones is a great counter puncher but calzaghe eats counter punchers for breakfast.
for that reason calzaghe by comfortable points decision

    Comment by ben howard — October 27, 2008 @ 12:56 pm

  26. End the silly abuse! Joe is welsh!!! It must be said, as its one of the many reasons why he has been champion for so long,he has alaways been the underdog and has lived a life of a nobody, like myself living in wales. We are always the underdogs!! This is undoubtly his hardest fight against roy, as roy is a natural light heavy and such a freak and god given gift hes got probably the perfect boxers genes, regardless of age. I would call this fight in Roy’s favour but Joe has always proved me wrong and i hope and prey he does this time around. As i would have bet against him in nearly every fight, hes has a UNCANNY way of winning and its hard for an american audience to see this without cheer leaders and entorages and a team full of yes men and pom pom shakers. Probably why my hero Tyson got so messed up. This fight win or lose will be what calzaghe is remeberd for.

  27. I think Kevin Keegan will win. He’s a much better ice skater and he far far more hair.

    Comment by Max — November 2, 2008 @ 8:49 pm

  28. Joe Calzaghe is a brilliant boxer and has every aspect of boxing apart from a killer blow… Roy Jones Jr would have killed calzaghe… In his hey day… fact is roy jones is too old to keep up with calzaghe… i’ll be very surprized to see and jones win!!!

    Com’on Calzaghe!!!!

    Comment by Ian Lane — November 7, 2008 @ 8:15 am

  29. Calzaghe has the ability to adapt his fight to unsettle the opponent and I think that’ll be key in this fight as it is in any modern fight. Calzaghe constantly pushes the boat out and I can’t see him losing against Roy Jones.

    Comment by Ben — November 7, 2008 @ 12:26 pm

  30. I Will Beat Joe Calzaghe on the 8th of november. i will not step out of the ring if i loose that night, i will have to be carried. this is going to be a great spectacle, id like to thank god, for my soon to be victory over “the pride of wales”

    Comment by Roy Jones Jr — November 8, 2008 @ 7:03 pm

  31. I think calzaghe will hammer roy jones jr to the ground and pumble him 2 dust

    Comment by ryan — November 8, 2008 @ 7:57 pm

  32. U LOT CHAT RUBBISH, CALZAGHE LEFT JONES WITH NO HOPE!! n then won by unanimous decision.

    Comment by Elliot — November 9, 2008 @ 10:50 am

  33. Sorry guys, but joe proved all his doubters wrong AGAIN!!!

he is and will always be the best british boxer the world has ever seen.

so i wish people would just shut it and just admire this bloke who is now 46-0.
