Glen Johnson’s camp intends to object to the decision to award Clinton Woods triumph in their light heavyweight clash last weekend. His promoters, Warriors Boxing, are claiming that one of Woods’ team broke International Boxing Federation regulations by attempting to climb into the ring during the fight.
Leon Margules, the Head of Warriors Boxing, said: “We intend on filing a protest. Glen Johnson should be crowned the victor or they should order an immediate rematch.” The rules of the IBF clearly state that: “If any corner person stands on the apron or enters the ring during a round, the referee shall disqualify the boxer.”
In return to these allegations Woods’ promoter Dennis Hobson admitted he made a short rush to get to his fighter’s corner during a rather ‘sticky’ ninth round. But he insists he returned to his seat straight after being told to do so by the referee and believes the threat from Johnson’s team is nothing more than ‘hot air’. He also said “It is a cheap shot by people who cannot come to terms with the fact their man lost fair and square. They have not been gracious in defeat and they are just bad losers.”
completely agree with him, Woods won the bout fair and square and deserves to keep his title. Hobson is clearly not bothered by this as he is already heading to America this Sunday to try and seal the next title defence for Woods, who has now defended his IBF title three times after his defence on Saturday which saw him win a twelve round bout over Johnson with a split decision. At the top of the list are the two former champions Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver. But I think that Woods has matured and improved a lot in recent months and I believe that he can go on to win plenty more contests. And after that truly inspiring fight on Saturday who can possibly disagree with me?!
Can Clinton go all the way?
