Khan Collects his First Title

Amir Khan won his first professional title of his professional career on Saturday after he beat Frenchman Rachid Drilzane for the IBF inter-continental light welterweight crown.

Khan Collects his First Title

But Khan, who turned 20 on Friday, definitely was made to work hard and dig in over the ten rounds for his victory; that he eventually won on points. Even though it was only Khan’s 10th professional contest and it was the first time he had ever fought a 10-round fight; and it was beyond doubt his toughest professional clash so far in his career, and he even took a controversial standing count in round seven but his constant jabbing won him the decision.

Khan used his famous super quick hands to control the bout at the very beginning when he clearly rocked Drilzane with some outstanding punches. But the Frenchman was not to be taken lightly as he too threw some respectable punches, and the third, fourth and fifth rounds he continuously pounded on at Khan.

But soon as Khan had to step into unknown territory as it was the first time in his career he had fought beyond the six round point in his fledgling career; which was clearly shown in his not-so-good seventh round. But in the eighth and ninth Khan managed to retrieve his form as he floated around the ring and constantly jabbed and unleashed his quick combinations.

And even in the final round Drilzane, who clearly knew he needed a knockout, went chasing the Briton, but Khan was able to keep boxing and keep moving to take his first, and hopefully not last, title. Although it was Khan’s toughest and most enduring contest it is without doubt that he learnt the more from this that any other of his quick knock out victories.

He told reporters after the fight: “To be honest I’ve never gone eight rounds even in sparring. But I’ve shown that I can take a punch and come back from it. My teenage years have gone; I’m celebrating my 20th birthday and my first belt.”

  1. This is a first step for amir, his first title.

This was the first fight that he has had that hasnt been a pushover for him and so khan is getting a taster for what it is like to fight harder opposition.

For a world championship title amir khan will have to be alot better and I still think that he has a fair way to go before he can make a challenge for a world title.

That said im sure that he is capable but I think he’ll have to have at least another ten bouts before he is ready.

    Good Luck to Amir Khan!

  2. What I think a lot of people are forgetting is Amir is only 20 years old and has much more to give. He just needs time to mature and learn a bit more but give it a year or two and he will definately be world champion. Too many people just think that he should be able to step into the ring and thrash anyone he faces because of his previous quick knock outs. There is obvious potential there and I have complete faith and belief in him.

    Good luck Amir!!!

  4. Amir is an amazing talent, he came through this test with flying colours. He showed he can take a punch showed maturity beyond his years to keep to the plan and Drilzane exposed some points for him to work on. Amir is definately being guided by people who know what they’re doing and has Amir’s futurein thier best interest, instead of letting him fight for a world title asap they seem to guiding him through to the title and a long and prosperous tenure as champion.

  5. He’s definately maturing and learninig quickly. If he continues at this rate there is no reason why he can’t become a world champion within the next year. He’s with the very best that can hopefully turn him into the best.
