WBA light flyweight boxing world title holder; Koki Kameda, beat Venezuela’s Juan Landaeta in his first title defence with a unanimous decision.
The Japanese fighter originally won the title with a very divisive split decision against Landaeta back in August.
20-year-old Kameda could not find the knockout punch that he had promised before the fight although he spent much of the bout show-boating and showing off. Unlike their first meeting, which Landaeta appeared to have easily won, this time around Kameda did look the clear winner, and after the bout he said: “I’m going to sleep with the belt tonight. This is for all the people out there who don’t like me.” And Landaeta also said: “I have to give him credit. I didn’t think he won by such a large margin but he prevented me from doing what I planned to do.” I think Kameda is a good boxer but is not very consistent and thinks he is a lot better than he is, if he just performs like we know he can all the time he will do very well for himself. And there is no saying the Landaeta cannot pull himself back up and regain championship status.
