Lonsdale Large Maize Boxing Ball

This boxing bag is perfect for working out and it is particularly good for improving your hooks, uppercuts and slips.

This Lonsdale boxing bag is a hardy piece of boxing equipment. The bag is very heavy and takes a fair bit of power in order to move it of to get it swinging. It is not like many other boxing bags which start swinging all over the place as you as you hand a couple of decent combinations.

Basically this bag is made up of eight panels of pure hide leather and inside of these are granules of a maize substitute. These granules do not break down, or harbour maize weevils.

The best part about this bag is the fact that when you hang it up, the base of the bag is around your shoulder height. This is where is should be for optimum use, so you may need to adjust it for different boxers.

As it is at shoulder height the boxer using this piece of boxing equipment can easily slip or duck underneath the bag and come out the opposite side of the bag.
Therefore you can land a few punches, then slip under the bag (similar to what you may do in a fight) and unleash another combination of punches on the other side.
This is great for enhancing you slipping, dodging and ducking skills and building up a “bob and weave” style.

Also with it being shoulder height you have easy access to the underside of the bag. This is simply awesome for practising uppercuts and you have a horizontal side to hit whereas many bags only have the vertical side. The horizontal underside simulates an opponent boxers chin or if they are bent over the face or torso.

Finally as this bag is pretty heavy duty so is also good for hook, powerful hooks, to either side of the bag. As the hook goes very well with the uppercut then it is hook/uppercut combinations that will really work well on this bag. For example you could throw a hook, uppercut, hook, then slip under the bag and throw another uppercut and then a hook. This works very well.

You can get this Lonsdale Maize Ball in large or small. The large will cost you about £90 whereas the smaller version costs around £55.

Boxing Daily Rating: 9/10 – This bag is great for hooks, uppercuts and slips and would have got ten but you cannot practice body shots on this bag as it hangs too high.

What do you think of this piece of boxing equipment, the Lonsdale Maize Ball?
