The CEO of Seconds Out, Robert Waterman, said yesterday that they had acquired some amazing exclusive internet broadcasting deals with 6 of boxing’s promoters as well as with a TV company.
This will enable SecondsOut to broadcast about thirty five LIVE boxing shows during this year, 2007.
The deal was announced yesterday on-board the famous HMS Belfast on the river Thames in London.
By far the best aspect of this ground breaking boxing deal is the agreement with Sport5, a German company, that will allow the broadcasting of Wladimir Klitschko’s next three IBF Heavyweight title defences. The first one will be against Ray Austin on March 10th.
This is truly history in the making as the first fight are broadcast live (and legally) via the world wide web.

What do you think of this announcement and boxing deal by SecondsOut?
I think its great that you can now watch boxing live over the internet, my only concern is: How much will it cost?
At the moment this is how much it costs to subscribe to SecondsOut TV:
1 month subscription @ £4.00 / $4.99 / €6.99
3 month subscription @ £12.00 / $14.97 / €20.97
6 month subscription @ £24.00 / $29.94 / €41.94
12 month subscription @ £44.00 / $54.89 / €76.89
That’s not cheap, considering you do not get every boxing fight only the ones they have permission for.
It is likely that these prices would rise considerably if SecondsOut bought more boxing broadcasting rights.
Also prices would rise a lot more if they were to get their hands on some PPV quality fights. It may sounds like a lot to have the IBF Heavyweight champion signed up, but you have to bear in mind that the heavyweight division is particularly dull and Wladimir Klitschko is not a very exciting boxer. His fights aren’t that great to watch and so in my opinion not worth a lot of money.
If we could get some high calibre fighters online, like Ricky Hatton’s fight the other night – then I think that this would really take off. Until then it is still a great idea and we must give a lot of credit to SecondsOut for pioneering this idea.
