Mayweather – De La Hoya

Well its coming up to the fight, we are literally minutes away. Everyone here is basically trembling with excitement, and everyone is getting last minute snacks and going to the toilet before the fight starts, NOBODY wants to miss a second of the upcoming fight.
Over fifty thousand boxing fans like us having paid £25 each to watch this fight in casinos and hotels on the strip in the fabulous Las Vegas, the Fight of the Year, that’s £1,250,000 in pay per view revenues….Let’s Hope that this fight can live up to its hype!

Okay now both fighters are all bandaged up, ready for action. Both look pensive, the trash talking is over now as both realise what a challenge is up in front of them. The fight has been delayed slightly as the previous bout on the undercard has ended later that expected…so we all all still waiting in suspense, The World Awaits!

7000 at the weigh in DLH cheered Mayweather booed DLH has generated half a billion in his career probably 3/4 of crown pro DLH who will this help?

A vast array of famous celebrities and great fighters are ringside, this is a “Fight for the Fighters” as well as for boxing fans all over the world, with the fight being shown in 176 countries and being beaten only by this years superbowl in term of tickets.

The names of the fighters are now being announced, Mayweather getting booed but a really tremendous cheer for the peoples favourite, Oscar De La Hoya.

The National anthems of Mexico and USA are sung despite them both being American, De La Hoya is very proud of his Mexican heritage and so insisted that the Mexican anthem was sung.

Floyd Mayweather comes into 50 Cent’s now song “Straight to the Bank” and he is flooded with boos from left right and centre, he is definitely the Bad Guy as he is hugged by 50 once inside the ring.

Oscar De La Hoya enters in a shimmery red gown and the crowd goes absolutely crazy, despite this, De La Hoya is not smiling, he is tense and concentrated, totally focused on the task ahead.

“This is the moment the world has been waiting for…LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!”

Round 1: Mayweather throws first punch of the fight, a left hook. Mayweather is winning on speed, handing a right hand, the taking one himself, left hooks are exchanged, the fight is well under way. DLH is reddening above the eye already after a few stiff jabs from the Pretty Boy. Mayweather is getting through with his punch but they are not hurting De La Hoya. The fight ends with a Mayweather win, making a very confident start, with the blistering speed of Mayweather being the difference between the two fighters.

Round 2: De La Hoya opens up and land a left hook, buy Mayweather is on the ropes defending well, making De La Hoya miss, until DLH lands a left hook, the best punch of the fight so far. DLH land a big right hand and is coming into the fight a bit more, working behind the jab. Floyd is landed jabs and a left uppercut whilst DLH lands a punch to the body. Both get a bit messy in the middle with elbow and heads but having lost the first round De La Hoya looked a lot more aggressive and urgent and the better fighter.

Round 3: A good right hand from Mayweather, but De La Hoya returns pushing Mayweather on to the ropes and his defensive skills are falling apart, and DLH is landed heavy blows. Mayweather jabs and moves, DLH comes forward with jabs and they exchange jabs to and fro for a while. A right hand over the low left hand guard of DLH is a great shot by the Pretty Boy as both fighters are very keen to get on with the fight and its been all action so far. Mayweather has gained more confidence in this round, looking more like he did in the first round. Its a very close round.

Mayweather De La Hoya

Round 4: A stiff jab from DLG and then a big left hook and Mayweather is on the ropes, but he responds with a big left hook. Coming away from a clinch DLH land a left hook, then a right hand. DLH misses with his punches as Floyd ducks and dives, DLH is pounding punches (not many landing) on to Mayweather in corner must he comes out the corner with a quick two punch combination. Mayweather walks back to the corner with a smile, this round is again very close. Now Floyd needs to hit and move, he is making it hard for himself at the moment.

Round 5: They stand to to toe and Mayweather lands a big right hand and then more left hooks come in from De La Hoya. DLH gets through with a right hand but responds with his own right hand. Mayweather continues to flick out the jab on the chin followed by a two big right hands and De La Hoya is shaken, the punch of the fight. But DLH fights back with a big right hand, then it turns again as Mayweather lands two big right hands and he is hurt. Mayweather boxes beautifully and wins the best round of the fight so far.

Round 6: A great right uppercut from Floyd and sets ups some punches with the jab. DLH works away on Mayweather who is on the rope, but this is using DLH energy and he has been know to fade later in fights. Mayweather now opens up with big right hands, boxing very confidently. DLH looks tired and old, taking shots from the Pretty Boy would is just too fast for him. Mayweather continues to flick out the jabs and other shots with speed. Another good round for Mayweather, showing why he is Boxing Daily’s top pound for pound boxer.

Round 7: De La Hoya comes forward, feinting, looking more active. Mayweather is trying to wear out the stamina of DLH, out of five punches DLH only land one and that is not meaningful. Two good jabs from DLH and another as DLH comes comes back into the contest before a crisp right hook land in the top of DLH’s head. Mayweather lands shots to the body and head still looking brilliant and leading on points. DLH opens up but his punches up just hitting the gloves and arms of Mayweather. Mayweather is losing concentration sometimes, letting DLH back into the fight slightly.

Round 8: Mayweather is on the back foot, moving around the ring but now DLH is getting through with some good punches, by Mayweather is standing his ground. Left Uppercut landed by Floyd and DLH lands some of his own, both fighters are still in this contest. Floyd is still flicking out the jab and then a left right and a right with blistering speed. Not much coming off the back foot from DLH in this round. DLH is urged forward by the crowd and throws a ton of punches, none of them land, noting is coming back, its still all Mayweather as he dominants the round.

Mayweather Jr DLH

Round 9: De La Hoya still shows signs that he has something left, but he cant match the quantity of shots coming from Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather lands more shot to the body and head of the DLH, and more crisp combinations from Floyd Mayweather. DLH’s shots are rarely landing but when they do they are not troubling Mayweather. Floyd is very confident and holds is left hand guard very low, but still performing very well, dampening the pro DLH crowd. Mayweather has re-asserted his dominance on this fight and he is still the main man, due to his speed, which is hurting DLH.

Round 10: Floyd Mayweather seems to be on the way to claiming another title, as DLH misses with two left hooks. Mayweather keeps flicking out his jabs, moves to the front foot, looking to make a stoppage, still very much on top of the fight. DLH cant respond to these lightening attacks from Mayweather, left right left right left right, landing the vast majority of them. DLH throws a disparate right land but Floyd is too quick and slips away from it. They come together in another clinch, and again Mayweather is winning the clinches, winning the fight and wins the round. Its all Mayweather.

Round 11: DLH has six minutes to turn this around, but he is caught by a great left hook to the body and he is hurt, then a right to the head, a right to the body and right to the head, pick any punch you like Mayweather is landing all sorts. DLH comes forward leaning into Mayweather trying to find an opening but Mayweather is so elusive he is very difficult to hit. They stand and trade in centre ring, a right by Floyd and then a left hook. Mayweather takes a big right hand and goes on to the ropes at the end of the round, a glimmer of hope that DLH could come back in this so far all Mayweather fight.

Round 12: This is DLH’s last chance. Can he do it? DLH charges in with a right hand but Mayweather ducks. Mayweather lands a hook on DLH’s chin as they trade punches. Mayweather still flicking out jabs that land on DLH’s chin. Mayweather opens up again to the head and the body with shot left right and centre. DLH pounds away to the body but Floyd smiles and goes into a clinch. Right hand from DLH and a three punch combo comes from DLH but none are hurting. DLH is rocked back but a right hand from Floyd. There is a flurry of punches to end the round.

DLH made a great finish, but Mayweather was in a difference class, it was Mayweather all the way, powered by a blistering pace and lightening speed. Mayweather nearly floored DLH in the last round but didn’t

The decision comes out, 115-113 De La Hoya, 116-112- Mayweather 115-113 Mayweather, so a split decision in Floyd Mayweather’s favour as he wins a world title in a fifth weight class.

Mayweather The Champion

Lets be fair here, it was not a spilt decision, it was not close. It was Mayweather all the way. He is still the best pound for pound fighter in the world and he won the biggest fight of the year, the richest non-heavyweight.

Rodger Mayweather summed it up, “He whipped his ass”.

Mayweather himself said “This was a masterpiece” and it certainly was.

  1. You must be joking if you thought Mayweather won, I was really surprised at how he went about this one and I never thought I would ever say this but If Mayweather was to fight Hatton the same way then Ricky would be too much for him. Mayweather needs to remember that reputations don’t win fights, although it does seem to have gone that way in this one. Oscar should feel hard done by as he was the clear winner.

  2. Well I cetainly hope that Hatton does fight and beat Mayweather, but you cannot deny that Mayweather was the clear winner, after round 8 it was all Floyd

  3. Are you serious? Mayweather beat him badly. Ricky Hatton is a joke and doesn’t deserve the chance to fight Mayweather. Why isn’t there any talk about Hatton fighting De la Hoya? Every fight has a different strategy, and if you think that Hatton stands a chance with Floyd you are a joke as well. De la Hoya is one of the best fighters of all time, Give Mayweather his due. 38-0 baby!

  4. All I’m saying is this… If you have a BELT like De La Hoya… and you have a challenger like Mayweather. THE CHALLENGER MUST…I say again, “MUST” TAKE THE BELT…. this he did not do in any way.. YOU DO NOT fight RUNNING (scared) backwards in a fight where you are the challenger TRYING to TAKE the belt. I do not recall Mayweather doing anything other than pop shoting and RUNNING all over the ring. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL that BS TALK…. hmmmm I wonder…. On the other hand, De La Hoya did not fight a great fight. BUT THE AGGRESSOR was the one MAKING the fight…. To me that had it a TIE… by default De La Hoya gets the belt and there would be a rematch. Mayweather did not in any way WIN anything other than a B*tch Slap across the face for all that talk and didn’t even do a thing. I like Mayweather, but the mans a CHUMP for talking all that trash and running like a little B*tch. Over all, I knew it. The Fans knew it… EVEN FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR knew it…. apparently one judge that was sleeping did not and favored the challenger for the win…. well I say boo to Mayweather along with the rest of the world. THIS FIGHT IS THE REASON WHY ALL THE BIG TIME MMA FANS TALK SH*T ABOUT BOXING…. what happened to the “SHOT IN THE ARM” for boxing? What happened to this being the BIGGIEST fight in HISTORY? At least ONE fighter was actually trying to fight (LIKE HE SAID HE WOULD) unlike Mayweather. To me, because of this fight, Mayweather is AGGRUABLELY the best P4P fighter in the world…. anyone that thinks he dominated the fight is an idiot. I mean he is a good fighter, but he did not deserve that WIN by ANY means and did nothing to take that belt from De La Hoya. Doesn’t anyone recall him talking about “BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS”. I didn’t see anything other than a BUSTED EYE, O yeah Go back and look at his face… then do me a favor and look at De La Hoya’s face. Interesting??? Ask yourself WHO hit harder and actually got threw the defense of who? ANYONE? ANYONE???? THE BUSTED EYE OF MAYWEATHER AND THE CLEAN FACE OF DE LA HOYA TELLS YOU THAT ANSWER. Anyway I know I wont get threw any of you DIE HARD Mayweather fans. Because De La Hoya could have knocked his A$$ out and you all still would say Mayweather won… I am a Mayweather fan but I will not sit here and LIE to myself saying he won that fight, let alone dominate it (LOL)… Back in the GOOD DAYS OF BOXING you had to BEAT THE SH*T out of a boxer to even get a chance at that belt… I guess I really see how boxing has evolved and how all those MMA fans are becoming right… Boxing is FALLING OFF and FALLING OFF FAST… UFC is moving on up… Boxing stabbed its fans in the back this past saturday night… I want a rematch and it better be free… (yeah right)…

  5. True Mayweather said he was going to go toe to toe, but I stopped listening to all the hype that boxers say before the fight, its all rubbish to sell tickets and PPV.
However you can’t have a go at Mayweather for going out there and boxing instead of fighting, thats his job, he won the fight fair and square and so he gets the title.
DLH didnt exactly do anything special in the fight despite what he said in the build up. He through a lot of punches and was agressive and that why he lost my majority not unanimous, but he rarely hit Mayweather, whereas Mayweather thre less punches but landed his ones.

I am not particularly a DIE HARD Mayweather fan, although i was rooting for him on Saturday night as he was getting booed by the crowd.

Hatton is 42-0 and he had beat fighters like Tszyu and he has won titles so deserves a shot at mayweather. Hatton is a come forward agreesive fighter and he will hunt Mayweather down, no matter how much he tries to “run”
This doesnt mean that Hatton would win but I think that it would be a more exciting fight as Hatton would really go for as he has a lot to prove whereas DLH had nothing to prove.
If this doesnt happen and we dont get more exciting fights…UFC will take it all over and I will have to change the name of this site to UFC Daily as nobody will want to know about boxing!

  6. Mayweather was too scared of De La Hoya’s power. He ripped off the fans by not fighting & running the whole fight. If it wasn’t for DLH there would have been no action at all. To take the belt from the champion you have to do something. At the end of the fight DLH’s face didn’t have a mark while pretty boy had a mousey right eye. The fans & DLH were ripped off. At best it was a draw & DLH should have been given the win.

  7. first things first delahoya shouldnt even have a belt in the middle weight division because he never won a fight in the middle weight division all those REAl boxing fans know what im talking about felix sterm is the right tittle holder he never beat him he was only robbed just so delahoya could fight hopkins wich kicked delahoyas butt. let me make this clear for all those foolish delahoya fans that thought he won… FLOYD MAYWEATHER pound for pound the best undefeated and a big reason why lightning speed punching and moving great defense all the boxing skills u need in a great fighter hes fought all the known names out there and beat em all. delahoya it was to me a landslide i gave it 4 rounds to 6 for mayweather. delahoya was weak yeah he was aggressive in the first rounds but to win a fight u have to land a punch he just didnt do that after the 4th round and if he did he didnt have any power behind it because he was too tired mayweather was landing the jab all night delahoya with his pitty pats to the ribs (yeah like ur gonna hurt him) that way maywather landed over 50%of his power shots that is unheard of that to me takes skill and u have to be a good fighter to land at that percentage they gave delahoya a split desision because so they could have a rematch and if he does fight hatton he will distroy him hatton has not fought a good fighter yet or margarito he has not proved to me that hes a good enough fighter to beat floyd i didnt say he wasnt a good fighter i just dont think he has what it takes to fight floyd the only person i think will give floyd a good fight is miguel cotto because he hits very hard

  9. personally i thought the fight as usual after all the hype was a complete let down. mayweather never wants a fight with some one whose capable of hitting back he just nicks rd after rd with his hit run comedy act.at least with hatton you now something at some point is going to get you on the edge of your seat.

    Comment by dan c — May 11, 2007 @ 7:57 pm

  10. I saw maybe 20 punches total, by both fighters, of any significance. May got in a couple of the hardest and De La got in sustained punch after punch a couple of times. If anyone can handle the truth, slow mo the whole fight and witness hundreds of punches to air, gloves or arms. Nuf said.

    Comment by Rudy Oross — May 13, 2007 @ 3:28 am

  11. haha right on… im right with ya on that one…

    Comment by WES — May 14, 2007 @ 3:33 pm

  12. Maywetter is a running scared fighter every fight night. He will see himself in the mirror against Hatton who also hits, holds or runs away, however Hatton has a better power punch. If he dares to fight Cotto he will get beat up real ugly, but he will never never chalenge him I assure you because he won’t be able to run……

    Comment by LeftyLeft — August 8, 2007 @ 7:54 pm

  13. I dont know man. I like Hatton but I dont beleieve he can handle the speed of PBF. It will be a good fight though. I just dont think Hatton has what it takes to beat him. JUST because PBF is soooo fast and really really smart in the ring.

    Comment by WES — August 10, 2007 @ 3:16 pm

  14. I agree that Cotto will beat Mayweather’s Ass. As what he did to Judah last June…

    Comment by master_dno — August 14, 2007 @ 6:14 am

  15. Sorry pimpin’ Mayweather VS Cotto would be a GREAT fight. But Maweather will WIN. Lets just hope the fight happens!
