Lee Meager claims that there is nothing to worry about when he attempts to defend his British lightweight crown against Jon Thaxton, from Norwich, in Dagenham this Friday.
Thaxton recently took on Ricky Hatton the distance at light welterweight the distance but Salford’s Meager says it will count for nothing when the two come to blows later this week: “What he did in the past means nothing - it’s all about Friday,” he continued by saying: “A lot of people see this as a 50-50 fight and say I’m the underdog. That’s because they’re taken in by the talk.”
Meager claims that the British people have failed to give him the respect and admiration that he deserves for what he had accomplished. He said: “Even though I am a British champion, people still don’t realise what I am capable of. I’m planning to shock them. Things are going right for me at the moment. I’m in the shape of my life and I’m on a run with the rest of my team. Thaxton’s not going to end that.” And there is no reason why Meager should not succeed; he has obvious talent and just needs the opportunity to show what he is worth.
