Having thought that he would not survive until his 40th birthday, Mike Tyson is still here at nearly 42 years old and what’s more, he has been clean from drugs and alcohol for 15 months.
I grew up when Mike Tyson was coming up through the boxing ranks and to me he is a childhood hero. Everyone at my boxing club wanted to be as good as Tyson, and we all watched and recorded every fight, had Mike Tyson posters in our rooms and to us he was and idol who was generally invincible.
Of course we all know that the good times didn’t last for Mike and his life went from bad to worse. But he could be getting a bit better now, which really means a lot for me and any for boxing fans of my generation.
Tyson said: ‘I just say I’m not getting high today. I’m not promising them I’m not getting high tomorrow. I’m trying to figure it out. I’m in an abysmal world trying to figure it out.’
‘I’ve lived a wild and a strange life, I’ve used drugs, I’ve had physical altercations with dangerous people… I’ve slept with guys’ wives and they wanted to kill me. I’m just happy to be here. It’s just a miracle.’
Despite many boxing fans, and spectators outside the sport “hating” Mike Tyson, he will always be a hero to be because of everything he did before things started to go off the rails, and I view him as one of the greatest boxers ever.
What do you think of Mike Tyson’s recovery?

RIGHT ON! TYSON will always have a place in BOXING’S HISTORY! GOOD/BAD/UGLY either way he was the best of the best and beat anyone at one point in his career. When Tyson left boxing, boxing (Heavyweight division) left with him. NOT one heavyweight was as good as him when he was in his prime. LEWIS was a POST TYSON ERA of champions, he WAS garbage anyway. Holyfield was MAYBE as good. Only reason I say that is because he had more HEART than any fighter to this day! Anyway TYSON is the reason I LOVE/WATCH the sport. I’m glad he is doing well. To this DAY he admits TO EVERY SINGLE thing that he has been charged for EXPECT raping that HOE (I can’t remember her name, don’t really care too). TYSON should get the label of the GREATIEST, right next to ALI!
