It was really a one sided contest from the start as Kevin Mitchell piled the pressure on to Harry Ramogoadi to finally finished him off in round six of the Commonwealth super-featherweight title fight in Liverpool.
The South African fell to the canvas when he walked into Mitchell’s right hand near to the end of the round and the referee Terry O’Connor wisely dispensed with the count.
Victory took the 22-year-old Londoner’s unbeaten record to 22 fights.
He said: “I knew he didn’t like being put under pressure so that is what I went out to do.”
Ramogoadi, who has fought the majority of his career at featherweight, looked like he was in survival mode from the start and never really looked like beating Mitchell.
Boxing Champion Mitchell was patient though and waiting for the opportune moment to drop his opponent which came at the end of round six, although he really hurt Ramogoadi in round four and that was when he began to crank up the pressure, leading to victory in two rounds time.
This was another good win for Mitchell and I think he is now at the point in his career where he needs to be looking for a world title fight.
Do you think Kevin Mitchell could win a world title?
I do not think he is capable of beating Marco Antonio Barrera yet, but he could certainly be a good challenger for the WBA, IBF or WBO titles which are held by Edwin Valero, Malcolm Klassen and Joan Guzman respectively.
