For the third time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather has decided to call it quits, and ended his career. The welterweight weight champion and pound-for-pound king has made retirement vows before. But is apparently now genuine about it. The big money fight with De La Hoya is no longer on, along with potential mega-fights against Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley.
Mayweather has won his last 39 fights and could have just fun fights if he wanted to have a bit of a mix up. But has decided to use a style that keeps him out of harm and building up points on the cards. You can’t blame him for not wanting to get punished, but when you think about it, the only reason you want to watch a Mayweather fight is to see him lose.
De La Hoya, the most bankable star in boxing, is planning to have two more fights before the end of the year. Maybe one will be fun with Mayweather gone. Perhaps now we will get more entertaining boxers like Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik and Israel Vazquez fighting for the top pound-for-pound spot.
Mayweather may lurk in the background like Lennox Lewis, with the comeback rumours emerging every now and then. Maybe an upcoming champion like Cotto will be enough to get Floyd “Money” Mayweather back in the ring, and shame his fight with De La Hoya last May.
Will Mayweather be coaxed out of retirement again?
Should the boxers be paid less?

I think its hype. I dont know if he wants to fight Cotto or not, but all Cotto needs to do is call him out. Talk trash and that will bring money out. IF MONEY MAY fights cotto and wins. NO ONE can ever say anything about him again. EVER. But I would love to see him Beat COTTO (due to speed) and take on MOSLEY who is just as fast. That would be an intertaining fight. Anyway Mayweather will be back (I hope).
