British bantamweight boxer Napa, is feeling confident that he will cause an upset when is challenges Italian Simon Maludrottu in Dagenham on Friday for the European crown.
Napa halted a run of three successive losses last time out and feels he can still compete at the highest level.
“Ian isn’t looking at this fight as his last opportunity,” said the 28-year-old’s trainer Brian Lawrence.
“He is looking at it as a major opportunity to win a big belt and go on to fight for a world title.”
Napa used to be the Southern Area flyweight champion but it will be an uphill challenge to beat Maludrottu, who followed up a highly-controversial win over Irishman Damaen Kelly last year with a demolishing, successful rematch.
Napa has come off the back of super bantam loss to Marc Callaghan, followed by a split decision loss to Martin Power, then defeat by Kelly.
However Lawrence added: “We are convinced Ian should have won those fights against Callaghan and Power.
“And I think those two dodgy decisions have made Ian mentally stronger.
“We feel the Italians think they have got an easy defence in store against Ian but he is looking great and is a fine technical fighter, so Maludrottu might be made for him.”
Do you think Napa can win the European title this Friday?
If he does it will be a tremendous achievement a should put him of course for a shot a world title.
What do you think?
Best of luck to Napa!
