New Low for Tyson: Vegas

By Boxing Daily, Posted September 16th, 2006

Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson is the most recent celebrity to have his name up in the flashing lights of Las Vegas. The once “baddest man on the planet” has brought his freak show into the deserts of Nevada and pitched a tent at the Aladdin Hotel Casino.

New Low for Tyson boxing news

For two hours, every lunch time outside reception, “Tyson’s Training Camp” shows “Iron Mike” attempt to waddle around a ring to the excitement of American tourists. And to be totally honest with you it is a very miserable sight.

Once upon a time Vegas was where some of Tyson’s greatest victories occurred, including his devastating demolition of Trevor Berbick back in 1986, when he became the youngest ever world heavyweight champion at the ripe old age of 20. Although Tyson once earned himself a modest $400m during a crazy yet fabulous career he managed to collect some unbelievable debts – that are still snow-balling. But as he made his way into the ring he was received with a quiet applause rather than the, once normal, whooping and hollering that he would once obtain back in his hay day. To this day his raw boxing power is still visible but so was the extra weight that he has picked up; that was poorly disguised beneath his oversized T-shirt. When sparring under the guidance of boxing legend Jeff Fenech, it was clear Tyson was 40 years of age as he went through a sequence of uninspiring combinations that lacked heart, determination and any real boxing ability.

As he stood in his trademark low black boots, the sluggish way in which he moved himself around the ring told us he was a finished man. He says that he hates fighting with a passion but fighting is all he knows and those debts are not going to go away. So do not be surprised if the next Mike Tyson article has the title ‘Rusty Iron Tyson Makes yet Another Return to the Ring’.

Please leave your own thoughts of this pathetic old man at the bottom of the page.

  1. Why are you having a go at Mike?

He was one of the greatest boxers of all time and your are slagging him off just as he cant move as fast as he did when he was 20 ??????

Ali can hardly talk but I dont see you having a go at him!

    Lay off Mike Tyson!

  2. Yeh, but Ali didn’t ruin his career, and all of the money he earned. The only reason Tyson is on Vegas is because he blew everything he ever had - thats why I’m laying into him. Not because he can’t box anymore, I know Ali can’t but he dosen’t try to. Ali was clever enough to cling onto some money to live on. Whereas Tyson has to try and pull off these stupid stunts to try and salvage some spare cash!

  3. Mike didnt blow all his money.

He lost some in an expensive court battle with Don King, who countersued mike.

Also his so called Finacial advisors, so called friends didnt look after his accounts properly so he has loads of back taxes to pay, that he should of payed when he was making all his money, but didnt because s***bags let him down!

They all had there arms around him when he was world champion, but as soon as he wasnt, everyone turned their back and didnt want to know anymore.

His “mates” turned on him, thats why he’s broke. They were bascially conmen and Mike got conned, but that not his fault so dont have a go at him

  4. Thanks for pointing that out ‘Sam’. I appreciate the fact that he was vunrable and a lot of people took advantage of him but he didn’t do himself any favours - spending millions on cars alone. He should have told these people to f*** off if he had any sense, but he didnt and now he has to live with that.

  5. Its not his fault those people screwed him though.
Mike isnt the sharpest tool in the book and its understand if these conmen pulled the wool over his eyes and he got a bit confused.

As for speding millions on cars - that is a world heavyweight champins birhtright and the right of all sport stars. Ali was broke at the end of his career and that why he had to keep fighting.

If you cant have sports cars, masion and a pet tiger, then whats the point in being heavyweight champion and earing $400m???

  8. I think that this is what I have come to expect from Tyson. A low life individual that has bottomed out to due to his lavish lifestyle and foolish spending. Man’s gotta work, so this is the best he can do.

    Comment by Brian — September 20, 2006 @ 5:07 pm

  9. I totaly agree! You’re completely right. Although Tyson had bad people around him you cannot ignore the fact that he was stupid. He was once one of the best boxers of all time - but nows he’s just a bum.

    Comment by Dave — September 21, 2006 @ 7:29 am

  10. Tyson was screwed by don king, a professional conman.
he also screwed ali when he gane him $25000 instead of $1000000

Don king is alos a convicted criminal.

he is respondsible for tyson’s downfall.

    Comment by Sam — September 21, 2006 @ 7:42 pm

  11. ok then “sam” - if that is your real name! I’m not saying it was entirely Tyson’s fault but he was stupid (just as Ali was with his money at times) and should have got rid of the bad people around him and looked after No.1!

    Comment by Dave — September 21, 2006 @ 7:46 pm

  12. C’mon Brian, back me up!

    Comment by Dave — September 21, 2006 @ 7:55 pm

  13. “C’mon Brian, back me up!”

    clutching at straws here “Dave”

a sure sign of someone losing an arguement….

    Comment by Sam — September 22, 2006 @ 1:17 pm

  14. Not at all! It’s just that you just won’t listen to me, so I’m hoping that you might listen to the truth if it comes from my man Brian. That’s all. Why would I need to ‘clutch straws’ anyway? I’m winning if I haven’t already won!

  15. Dave,

Why are you so hard on Mike? Isn’t the man suffering enough, without some 40+ year old pudgy, pasty, armchair geek/nerd/wretched, impotent golem who couldn’t box his way out of a bag of Krispy Cremes, taking below-the-belt cyber pot shots from the safety of his darkened basement? Since when is 40 so OLD ?? There are still plenty of athletes still performing close to their physical peak…Why is Mike a pathetic old man, at 40?? Not everyone can enjoy the privileges of having a caring, stable parent instruct them on the basics of self-sufficiency! Managing one’s finances is a LEARNED behavior, Dave. Not all of us can be as clever and entrepreneurial as yourself…just the brilliance and innovation of this deceptively dull, and poorly designed web site simply screams out the overwhelmingly vast amounts of success and personal wealth that you must enjoy! And another point… who’s to say that the people surrounding him would have been honest about what his financial state truly was, even had he urgently insisted on being in the know? What self-respecting, blood-sucking scavenger/parasite would knowingly derail the doomed gravy train of Mike’s career earlier than absolutely necessary? Duh.
By the way, where are your comments about Willie Nelson on this site? …didn’t he have to churn out miserable, sub-standard, records to pay off his HUGE tax bill, who according to you, should have known better? Now granted, Willie doesn’t box professionally, but I bet his 90 year old wrinkled, Hershey’s Highway stained, depends-wearing ass could give you a run for the money! Now THAT is a fight I’d actually order on a pay(ripoff)-per-view channel!

Out of curiosity…are you just a teensy-weensy little bit jealous of the old “Iron” Mike? Are you another ‘coulda been’ wannabe that never had the cohones or talent to enjoy the sucess that Mike had? It’s the pressure to perform; exerted inside and out.. of his life by heartless, bitter, disillusioned people like yourself, that has helped to put him where he is today.

Remeber Dave, that when you point your stubby, bloated, Twinkie encrusted finger at someone…there are three more pointing back…at you!
