The former British and Commonwealth boxing champion, Danny Williams hopes to show that he still has a future in boxing when he takes on Scott Gammer, the British Champion, in March.
He had effectively already announced his retirement after his lost in the third round to Audley Harrison last December.
However Williams said: “I have set myself this challenge to prove to both myself and to the public that I am not finished just yet. I’ve seen plenty of people retire too early. I want to leave in peace when I know I am properly finished.”
Williams really got big in boxing when he knocked out Mike Tyson in Kentucky.
People were screaming and hyping him up as he got the nickname, “The Man who knocked out Mike Tyson”.
What a load of rubbish!
Why hype him for that?
As much as I supported Danny Williams as a British boxer, he is not that good and knocking out Tyson was no reason to think he was any better.
When Williams fought Tyson, Tyson was old, slow and generally well on his way out of boxing. Lennox Lewis had beat him before Williams, and a little know Irish boxer beat him after Williams, so there is nothing to get excited about.
Williams would not have stood a chance against Mike Tyson at his peak.
All of a sudden people started talking about how Williams could be the next champ but he was shown up for what he really was when Vitali Klitschko bashed him up in a world title fight.
I don’t expect much to come out of Williams’ “comeback” as he is just an average boxer in a much less than average weight division.
What do you think?
