Ricky Hatton To Make Comeback In Front of 55,000

A massive fifty five thousand boxing fans are going to be in the City of Manchester Stadium for the great Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight against Juan Lazcano.

Its really good to see a high profile boxer like Hatton rewarding his fans by making tickets for this fight relatively cheap (they cost less than a Manchester City football ticket). It is this attitude that is making Hitman Hatton a hero, up with the likes of Henry Cooper and Frank Bruno in the hearts of British boxing fans.

Hatton is going to fight the Mexican Lazcano who is one of the more experienced boxers although, at 35, he has probably known better days. However he has boxed at a fairly high level and with a boxing record of 4 loses in 42, he looks like a good comeback fight for Hatton.

Ricky Hatton has recovered from a chest infection and said: “I’m over the worst, I had a few days off training but there’s no way I would let these people down. I want to repay them for their loyalty with a fantastic performance.”

“It’s great to have 55,000 in your corner, but with it comes pressure. I don’t want this to be remembered for being a stinker. I want people to walk away saying: ‘Wow, this is the best boxing night we’ve ever been to’.”

“Also, a lot of people are waiting with their daggers out. They are expecting me to nosedive after Mayweather, and not living life as maybe I should. But I ain’t finished yet. My pride’s hurt but my ego isn’t. I know I can come back stronger.”

“I get upset when people say I was convincingly beaten. OK, the knockout was convincing – you can’t get more convincing than that – but I thought it was only in the last couple of rounds that he started to pull away. I laid my heart on the line against Mayweather, I gave it everything. I went out as a true champion and fans appreciate that. That’s why they are coming.”

Hatton is exactly right. There is nothing that boxing fans appreciate more than a fighter who gives his all, all the time. Do you agree?

Do you think Hatton will make a strong comeback after losing to Floyd Mayweather?
