Oscar De La Hoya, the WBC super welterweight champion, has finally decided who will train him for his much anticipated fight against Floyd Mayweather.

Freddie Roach will be the one to lead him into the MGM Grand Arena on May 5th.
The Boxing Writers Association of America voted Roach the trainer of the year in 2003. He will replace Floyd Mayweather Sr. who has been the long time coach of De La Hoya, but somewhat purposefully priced him self out of the game when he asked for $2 million.
Freddie and I have known each other for many years, and I am very happy that at this point in my career, he has accepted my offer to be my trainer,” De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya has already begun some pre camp workouts, but his training will begin in earnest on March 1st in Puerto Rico.
After reitiring from pro boxing in 1986, Roach has trained 18 world boxing champions. These include big names like Manny Pacquiao, James Toney, Mike Tyson, Virgil Hill, Israel Vazquez and Wayne McCullough. Therefore he is universally respected by all in boxing.
What do you think of De La Hoya’s decision to make Roach his coach?
And how do you think this will effect the upcoming De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather fight?

Freddie Roach is THE MAN!
