Well many people (including most of the team here!) thought that the fight between old timers Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad would be a lame fight with both boxers simply getting into the ring for a bit more cash.
However it was a fairly good fight, much better than we had expected, with Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) winning a unanimous 12-round decision over Felix “Tito” Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs) at New York’s Madison Square Gardens.

As as British boxing fans, The Boxing Daily Team was bitterly disappointed that Hatton did not manage to beat Mayweather but at the same time we are all extremely please that a Hatton got himself in a position to challenge the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Seeing Ricky Hatton rise up through the professional boxing ranks has been great, especially as he has really taken the big fights and won them (with the exception of Mayweather). It makes a change from Joe Calzaghe slapping bums around (read more…)

The next two big fights in Britain, and arguably the world, involve the British boxers Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe.
Calzaghe faces Mikkel Kessler and Ricky Hatton is going to fight pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather.
Calzaghe and Hatton are the biggest names in British boxing, there is no doubt about this, but I would argue that (read more…)

Super Middleweight King Joe Calzaghe has warned Jermain Taylor he will only win the respect he craves if he faces a “genuine challenge” and he has called him a “chicken”.

Enzo Maccarinelli is still the WBO Cruiserweight champion after he retained his title with ease by a stoppage in round one against American Bobby Gunn.
This was another case of a quality British boxer beating an overrated American fighter!
Maccarinelli looked absolutely awesome in the ring and in my opinion he was the best boxer of the night, he performed better than Khan and Calzaghe on Saturday night.

This was Maccarinelli’s second defence of the title that he won by beating Marcelo Dominguez in July (read more…)

Watch interviews with Joe Calzaghe and Peter Manfredo before they fight on Saturday night.
Peter Manfredo said that by modelling himself on Jake LaMotta he will be able to beat Calzaghe. Apparently Manfredo has been nicknamed ‘LaMotta’ in the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.
This is supposed to be based on his bustling boxing style as well as his Italian-American background and his “hard head”.

“See LaMotta in Raging Bull and it’s me - just without the brutal part with his wife and all that nonsense,” Manfredo said (read more…)
