Pavlik Looking Past Lockett to Calzaghe

After Palvik disposed of the Welshman on Saturday Night in Atlantic city, it seems that a fight between Calzaghe and Kelly Palvik is very likely. Palvik’s promoter Bob Arum and Frank Warren have started negotiations about a fight between the two aimed to make a fight on the 18th October, with Wales, Atlantic City, New York, and Las Vegas all possible sites for this fight. Although Warren said (read more…)

Another Step Closer To The Big Time For Amir Khan

As we have said many times before, Amir Khan is the best british boxing prospect at the moment and as British boxing fans we are pleased to see Khan moving closer to world class status.

In a WBO lightweight eliminator, unbeaten Amir Khan (17-0, 13 KOs) scored a seventh round stoppage of Martin Kristjansen (19-2-3, 5 KOs) on Saturday night at the Bolton Arena.

Again we saw Khan playing off his strengths of fast and also powerful punches. This is why Amir Khan should be (read more…)

Enzo Maccarinelli is still the WBO Cruiserweight champion after he retained his title with ease by a stoppage in round one against American Bobby Gunn.

This was another case of a quality British boxer beating an overrated American fighter!

Maccarinelli looked absolutely awesome in the ring and in my opinion he was the best boxer of the night, he performed better than Khan and Calzaghe on Saturday night.

Enzo Maccarinelli is still the WBO Cruiserweight champion

This was Maccarinelli’s second defence of the title that he won by beating Marcelo Dominguez in July (read more…)

Over Hyped Gunn says he can beat Enzo

Bobby Gunn, the WBO Cruiserweight Challenger has said that he thinks the current champion Enzo Maccarinelli is a tougher fight than Roy Jones Jr.

“I had a possible fight with Jones fall through, but to me there is no comparison with Enzo - he is the man right now,” Gunn said.
“He’s perhaps the best cruiserweight in the world, but a chance to fight such a man on his own ground is what I crave.”

I would agree with Gunn on this one. Although Roy Jones Jr. was a superb fighter in his prime, he is now well past his prime, whereas Enzo is coming into his prime and so he is the better match.

Enzo will beat Gunn

This will be Maccarinelli’s second defence of the title and will be at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday as chief support to the Joe Calzaghe fight (read more…)

Froch wins again – Can he now make a world title challenge?

carl froch wins

Carl Froch became the first boxer to beat Sergey Tatevosyan as he stopped the previously undefeated boxer in two round in Nottingham.

This means that super middleweight Froch is now unbeaten in 21 fights after he stopped the unstoppable Siberian with a big right hand.

Although Tatevosyan was able to beat the count, referee Terry O’Connor stepped in after Tatevosyan continued to take punishment.

“I’ve done what nobody else has managed to do and sent out a clear message to the world champions,” said Froch.

At the very top of the list of fighters Froch wants to fight is WBO Champion Joe Calzaghe, who is set to defend his title against Peter Manfredo on 7th April in Cardiff.

Froch said: “In an ideal world I would go after Calzaghe. Soon he will have no choice but to vacate or fight me, then we will see what kind of man he is.

“If he is a proud and strong man and a warrior, which I believe he is, he should step in the ring with me and we will put on a great British fight.

“Tatevosyan is a world-class opponent and I got in there and annihilated him in two rounds so I have proved my worth. I want to prove to the world that I am good enough.”

Carl Froch is ranked in the top three of the 12 stone division both both the WBA and WBC.

WBO Rankings

In the WBO ranking, where Calzaghe is champion, Carl Froch is ranked at the number 3 in the world, which is forth from the top if you include Calzaghe.

Should Calzaghe fight Froch?

Perhaps, but this would not be a mega fight, I would rather see Calzaghe fight Mikkel Kessler as I think Mikkel Kessler has proved that he is probably the second best boxer at this weight, and Calzaghe is the best so it is only natural that Calzaghe should fight Mikkel Kessler before fighting Carl Froch.

What do you think?
