David Haye, the man that wants to be the first british heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis, has turned down a fight with Matt Skelton, and said that he would “rather retire from boxing”, than work with Frank Warren again.
Warren offered £600000 to Haye for a fight in the autumn with the 40 year old commonwealth champion Skelton. The cruiser weight king called the offer “derisory”. And stated scorned Warren saying (read more…)

Klitschko targeting Valuev fight

Wladimir Klitschko, the current IBF world heavyweight champion is lining up a fight with the massive Nikolai Valuev, who holds the WBA Heavyweight title.

Klitschko described the Russian giant as the “toughest boxer,” and also saying “Our bout would be a real event.”

Nikolai Valuev is set to fight Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chigaev in April and Wladimir Klitschko recently defending his title in a mandatory defence against Ray Austin, who he beat in two rounds.

Wladimir Klitschko said: “I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Nikolai will win the bout and keep his title.”

I think that a fight with Nikolai Valuev is the best move that Klitschko could make at this stage in his career. Klitschko needs to unify the belts in the heavyweight division and beat decent well known boxers like Valuev to get the respect and to be recognised as a boxing champion, not just a title holder.

If Klitschko beats Valuev then he will have two title and is well on the way to unifying the heavyweight crowns.

Do you think he can do it?

The great Russian, Nikolai Valuev, hammered America’s Monte Barrett in a bout that lasted eleven rounds to keep hold of his WBA heavyweight title that he won against John Ruiz. Valuev, who is 33 years of age, stands at an extraordinary seven foot and weighs an incredible 23 stone – which makes him the biggest heavyweight champion of all time.

He put his much shorter opponent to the canvas twice before Barrett’s trainer finally stopped the contest into the later half of the 11th round. The referee formally stopped the bout two minutes and twelve seconds into the 11th, which took Valuev’s unbeaten record to 45 wins of which 33 have come by way of knockout. Valuev is one of four Russian professional boxers to hold major belts, the others being Wladimir Klitschko, Oleg Maskaev and Sergei Liakhovich (read more…)

IBF heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko will make his first defence against American Calvin Brock on the 11th of November in New York. Recently, there had been rumours of a unification fight with Oleg Maskaev, who took the WBC title from Hasim Rahman last month.

But instead of this, the unbeaten Brock, 31, has at long last been given the prospect of winning a world title. He has had 29 bouts, winning 22, even though he has never stepped into the ring with a former world champion. “Calvin Brock is a very difficult opponent as his pro results and amateur career proves,” said the 30 year old Klitschko, who beat Chris Byrd in a seventh round stoppage to win the IBF belt last April. “I know he is a dangerous opponent and I will not under-estimate him (read more…)
