Amir Khan set to fight Medjadji at Wembley

Amir Khan, from Bolton, was meant to be facing the Frenchman Rachid Drilzane in an 8 round contest on Saturday night but has now been pushed into last-minute title bout.

Arthur Hands Over European Crown

Alex Arthur has given up his European super featherweight crown in an attempt to become world champion. Arthur became Scotland’s first ever European champion for 11 years when he beat Boris Sinitsin in July last year; since then he has made three defences.

Boxing Legend Willie Pep Passes Away

Former world featherweight champion Willie Pep has passed away at the fine old age of 84. The colourful Pep is considered by many as one of the greatest boxers of all time; he had great style, speed and reflexes, and is the only boxer in history to have won a round with not throwing a single punch and just avoiding his opponents’.

The American, born Guglielmo Papaleo, beat the great Chalky Wright in 1942 to win the featherweight championship and kept the title for six years. He remarkably met Sandy Saddler four times, losing to him in 1948, salvaging his belt the next year and then losing to him again in 1950 and 1951. The superb Pep won 230 out of his 242 fights; and 65 came by way of knockout. And in 1990 he had his place put into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for the superb talent that he had. Harrison Still Doubtful

Scott Harrison’s promoter, Frank Warren, has said that Harrison’s fight with Nicky Cook will only happen if the WBO featherweight champion is released from jail on Monday.

Harrison, who is 29 years old, has been in a Spanish jail since the 6th October over accusations of assault. But if Harrison does not fight on the 9th of December he may lose his WBO title. Warren was attending Alex Arthur’s European super-featherweight title fight against Sergio Palomo at the Kelvin Hall, where the Edinburgh fighter defended his crown with a fifth-round stoppage (read more…)

European super featherweight champion, Alex Arthur effectively defended his belt title for a third time after ending Spain’s Sergio Palomo fight during the fifth round.

Palomo received standing counts within the first two rounds as Arthur hit him with a straight right and then a sharp swinging left hook. The Scottish boxer looked far too powerful for Palomo and he put him down again in round five; when the ref finally ended the bout.
