Arthur Hands Over European Crown

Alex Arthur has given up his European super featherweight crown in an attempt to become world champion. Arthur became Scotland’s first ever European champion for 11 years when he beat Boris Sinitsin in July last year; since then he has made three defences.

His promoter Frank Warren said: “With respect to the European title, we have taken that as far as we can. Harrison Still Doubtful

Scott Harrison’s promoter, Frank Warren, has said that Harrison’s fight with Nicky Cook will only happen if the WBO featherweight champion is released from jail on Monday.

Harrison, who is 29 years old, has been in a Spanish jail since the 6th October over accusations of assault. But if Harrison does not fight on the 9th of December he may lose his WBO title. Warren was attending Alex Arthur’s European super-featherweight title fight against Sergio Palomo at the Kelvin Hall, where the Edinburgh fighter defended his crown with a fifth-round stoppage (read more…)

European super featherweight champion, Alex Arthur effectively defended his belt title for a third time after ending Spain’s Sergio Palomo fight during the fifth round.

Palomo received standing counts within the first two rounds as Arthur hit him with a straight right and then a sharp swinging left hook. The Scottish boxer looked far too powerful for Palomo and he put him down again in round five; when the ref finally ended the bout. Former ABA champion, Kevin Mitchell won the Commonwealth super featherweight title on Saturday evening with a well-deserved points triumph over Ghana’s tough George Ashie at London’s York Hall. It was the ABA featherweight victor’s 22nd win after he turned professional.
