Well many people (including most of the team here!) thought that the fight between old timers Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad would be a lame fight with both boxers simply getting into the ring for a bit more cash.
However it was a fairly good fight, much better than we had expected, with Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) winning a unanimous 12-round decision over Felix “Tito” Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs) at New York’s Madison Square Gardens.

Is it just me or is this fight happening years after it should have happened?
Both of these boxers are way past their prime but Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad are set to go head to head in Las Vegas in just a couple of days.
To be honest, either Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad are half decent liars or neither of them actually know how far past their prime they are (read more…)

Thanks to Michael Jordan, every sports star seem to want to make a “comeback”. Actually I think this stems back to Muhammad Ali who made the original “greatest comeback”.

But the fact is that Ali didn’t intentionally retire, he was forced to stop boxing. Show offs like Mayweather come out with utter rubbish about retirement so they can claim that they are making some magnificent comeback. This are fakes. Just retire when you want to retire, but don’t announce that you are going to retire just to raise PPV sales because its annoying boxing fans like myself!
This “comeback” by Roy Jones Junior and Felix Trinidad is (read more…)

Bobby Gunn, the WBO Cruiserweight Challenger has said that he thinks the current champion Enzo Maccarinelli is a tougher fight than Roy Jones Jr.
“I had a possible fight with Jones fall through, but to me there is no comparison with Enzo - he is the man right now,” Gunn said.
“He’s perhaps the best cruiserweight in the world, but a chance to fight such a man on his own ground is what I crave.”
I would agree with Gunn on this one. Although Roy Jones Jr. was a superb fighter in his prime, he is now well past his prime, whereas Enzo is coming into his prime and so he is the better match.

This will be Maccarinelli’s second defence of the title and will be at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday as chief support to the Joe Calzaghe fight (read more…)

34-year-old IBF light heavyweight champion of the world Clinton Woods will not fight again this year as he needs remedial surgery on his arm to repair a torn tendon. He got his injury during his superb victory over Glen Johnson earlier this month, but it has only recently come into view.

Woods told reporters “They need to cut out a piece of muscle in my left forearm, just below the elbow, which has been giving me a lot of pain over the last year,” He continued by saying “I just want it done now so I don’t have to worry about it.” The muscle needs to be removed from his arm in order for the tendon to heal itself. Woods became conscious of the setback as he prepared for his first IBF title defence against Julio Gonzalez back in 2005 (read more…)

Joe Calzaghe claims he will not allow gossip about a British showdown with Clinton Woods to sidetrack him from the defence of his super middleweight titles in October. Calzaghe is to defend his WBO and IBF belts against Cameroon’s Sakio Bika in Manchester on the 14th of October.

But Calzaghe has said negotiations for a fight with IBF light heavyweight champ Woods have already commenced. Calzaghe said in a statement: “Although the talk is of a fight with Woods or fights next year, I can’t take my eyes off the ball (read more…)

Glen Johnson’s camp intends to object to the decision to award Clinton Woods triumph in their light heavyweight clash last weekend. His promoters, Warriors Boxing, are claiming that one of Woods’ team broke International Boxing Federation regulations by attempting to climb into the ring during the fight.

Leon Margules, the Head of Warriors Boxing, said: “We intend on filing a protest. Glen Johnson should be crowned the victor or they should order an immediate rematch.” The rules of the IBF clearly state that: “If any corner person stands on the apron or enters the ring during a round, the referee shall disqualify the boxer (read more…)

34 year old Clinton Woods is to defend his IBF title against his Jamaican rival, Glen Johnson, in Bolton on Saturday night. Woods wants to soon establish himself as the number one light heavyweight champion in the world by beating Johnson.

Clinton’s manager said this: “Johnson cannot outbox Clinton on the jab or at long range. Clinton will shell him from distance all night.” They two met back in 2002 but the fight ended in a draw (read more…)
