British boxer David Haye produced an excellent performance to topple the Russian giant Nikolai Valuev and win the WBA heavyweight title in via a majority decision points victory.

Wladimir Klitschko, the current IBF world heavyweight champion is lining up a fight with the massive Nikolai Valuev, who holds the WBA Heavyweight title.

Klitschko described the Russian giant as the “toughest boxer,” and also saying “Our bout would be a real event.”

Nikolai Valuev is set to fight Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chigaev in April and Wladimir Klitschko recently defending his title in a mandatory defence against Ray Austin, who he beat in two rounds.

Wladimir Klitschko said: “I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Nikolai will win the bout and keep his title.”

I think that a fight with Nikolai Valuev is the best move that Klitschko could make at this stage in his career. Klitschko needs to unify the belts in the heavyweight division and beat decent well known boxers like Valuev to get the respect and to be recognised as a boxing champion, not just a title holder.

If Klitschko beats Valuev then he will have two title and is well on the way to unifying the heavyweight crowns.

WBA world heavyweight champion; Nikolay Valuev, is set to journey to Switzerland on the 20th of January to protect his crown against the American Jameel McCline.

The huge 33-year-old Russian, who is yet to be defeated, is the favourite against McCline, who has lost six bouts out of his 47 professional contests. And at a massive 7ft tall and whopping 147kg in weight Valuev is the tallest and heaviest champion in all of boxing history (read more…)

The great Russian, Nikolai Valuev, hammered America’s Monte Barrett in a bout that lasted eleven rounds to keep hold of his WBA heavyweight title that he won against John Ruiz. Valuev, who is 33 years of age, stands at an extraordinary seven foot and weighs an incredible 23 stone – which makes him the biggest heavyweight champion of all time.

He put his much shorter opponent to the canvas twice before Barrett’s trainer finally stopped the contest into the later half of the 11th round. The referee formally stopped the bout two minutes and twelve seconds into the 11th, which took Valuev’s unbeaten record to 45 wins of which 33 have come by way of knockout. On the 7th August, WBA heavyweight champion, Nikolai Valuev left his hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia to head to Armenia where he and his trainer Manuel Gabrielian will begin 3-weeks of long and tiring training for his next bout. He is the first Russian ever to defend a heavyweight world championship and is likely to be defending his title in October in the USA.
